Professor O.P. Yavorovsky has been the chair of department since 1993. He passed the postgraduate, assistant, associate professor’s practice at the department, defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Occupational hygiene in the production and processing of epoxy resins and plastics” (1990). Winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, author of 341 scientific works, including 18 books (monographs, textbooks, manuals, dictionaries). He trained 12 Doctors and PhDs. The results of scientific researches performed at the department under the leadership of O.P. Yavorovskyi formed the basis of the scientific substantiation of the maximal permissible concentrations for epoxy resins, adhesives based on them and other compounds, “Sanitary rules for the production and using of epoxy resins and materials based on them” (1990), guidelines “Hygienic requirements for working conditions and prevention of diseases in workers engaged in the production of epoxy resins and plastics on their basis ”(1988), State Standard of Ukraine No. 2093 1992 “Solid Epoxy-diane noncuring resins ”.

Department of Occupational Health and Occupational Diseases has been researching the working conditions of workers engaged in the production and using of nanomaterials in various synthesis technologies, studying the biosafety of nanomaterials in relation to different biological objects under the O.P. Yavorovsky initiative since 2008.

Professor of the Department of Hygiene and Ecology 2 of the NMU. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medicine and Prevention of the Bogomolets National Medical University in 1994.

In 1999 he defended his PhD thesis on “Hygienic assessment of the effect of epoxy compositions on the reproductive function of women in the conditions of production and justification of wellness measures” and in 2016 – a doctoral dissertation on the topic “Hygienic assessment of the global environmental pollutant methyl tertbutyl ether and molecular-genetic mechanisms of its action on the body” (Hygienic Assessment of Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether as a Global Environmental Pollutant and Molecular Genetic Mechanisms of its Action in a Living Organism).

Scientific interests: industrial toxicology, occupational health, occupational health and safety.

Co-author of 158 scientific papers, including 2 textbooks, 9 textbooks, 7 utility model patents, 4 fact sheets, 12 model and sample programs.

Paustovskyy Yu.O. actively participates in public work of the University. He is a member of professional union Committee staff since 2000 and responsible for labor protection at NMU.

She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Prevention of the Bogomolets National Medical University in 1994.

From 1995 to 2002 she had been studying at the postgraduate course at the Department of General Hygiene, Occupational Health and Occupational Diseases of the Bogomolets National Medical University.

In 2003 she defended her PhD thesis on the topic: “Hygienic prediction of toxicity of epoxy compounds based on statistical methods and quantum chemistry” («Hygienic prognostication of epoxide toxicity based on statistics and quantum chemistry methods»).

In 1974 he graduated from the faculty of sanitary and hygiene of the Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute.

From 1974 he worked at the Department of Occupational hygiene and Occupational Diseases of KMI in the position of junior scientist, since 1979 – senior scientist, since 1986 – Assistant Professor, and from 1998 to the present – Associate Professor.

In 1988 he defended his PhD thesis on the theme: “Occupational hygiene in the production of laminated extruded insulating materials based on epoxy and phenol-formaldehyde resins”.

From 1994 to 2013 – Deputy Dean for Scientific and Educational Work of the Medical Faculty №4. He is responsible for scientific work at the department. He is the author and co-author of more than 100 printed scientific works. Higher category doctor in occupational health.

Member of the Commission on Hygiene Regulation of Chemicals in the Air of the Working Zone of the Committee on Hygiene Regulation of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

In 2008 she graduated from Bogomolets National Medical University. Worked as a general hygiene doctor at the sanitary and epidemiological station of Svyatoshinskyi district of Kyiv. In 2009 she defended her master’s thesis. From 2009 to 2011 she studied in full-time postgraduate studies.

In 2011 she defended her PhD thesis on the topic: “Hygienic and toxicological aspects of the prevention of the adverse effects of silver nanoparticles”.

Since 2010 she has been working as an assistant of the department.

Since 2019 she has been working as an associate professor of the department.

Scientific interests: nanotoxicology, occupational health, occupational health and safety.

Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology (1997), Laureate of the Prize of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine in the field of preventive medicine (2007), Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2017).

In 1971, he graduated with honors and a recommendation for scientific work from the Kyiv Medical Institute named after O.O. Bogomolets. He worked as the Chief State Sanitary Doctor (at the same time he served as the head of the district committee of the trade union of medical workers) of the Stavyshchansky district of the Kyiv region (1971-1973), and as the head of the food hygiene department of the Kyiv regional sanitary and epidemiological station.

He has been working at the department since September 3, 1973: assistant, since 1985 – associate professor, since 2004 and until now – head of the department.

He defended his candidate’s thesis (in 1980) on the topic “Comparative hygienic assessment of compact factory-made sewage plants”; he defended his doctoral thesis (in 2003) on the topic “Hygienic justification of optimal parameters of operation of new types of sewage treatment facilities for the purpose of sanitary protection of sources of domestic and drinking water supply of the population.”

Has prepared 5 candidates and 1 doctor of medical sciences.

Areas of scientific research: Scientific justification and development of measures to prevent infectious and non-infectious diseases among the population that spread through water, through sanitary protection of surface water sources and soil; hygienic studies to assess the impact of environmental factors on population health; establishment of patterns in the formation of the health status of rural children in Chernihiv region under the influence of environmental factors; hygienic assessment of the operating mode of swimming pools at educational institutions, hygienic justification of medical, pedagogical and sanitary-technical support of the educational process based on swimming pools at educational institutions, etc.

Author and co-author of about 400 published works. Among them – 12 textbooks, 6 teaching aids, 5 monographs (2 collective with international participation), 3 books; 9 inventions, more than 30 regulatory and methodological documents and standard programs of educational disciplines for students of higher medical educational institutions of Ukraine of III-II levels of accreditation, approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

From 2013 to 2016, she was the Head of the Scientific and Organizational Department of the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy, and from 2016 to the present, she was the Head of the Faculty of Retraining and Advanced Training of the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy.

Author and co-author of over 100 scientific papers. The main works are devoted to the protection of military personnel and military equipment from combat damage of a radiation, chemical, and biological nature, which were used to develop the statutes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Bogomolets (in 1986) and received a referral to the Department of Communal Hygiene of the Kyiv Medical Institute. At the department, she worked her way from a senior laboratory assistant with a higher education, a junior research fellow in self-financing scientific subjects, an assistant (since 1988), an associate professor (since 2002) to a professor (since 2007) to the present.

Defended candidate’s thesis (in 1992) on the topic “Experimental substantiation of the maximum permissible concentration of ricid-P in soil and hygienic regulations for its use in the system of chemical protection of rice”.

Defended doctoral thesis (in 2005) on the topic “Hygienic substantiation of measures for the prevention of the combined effect of ionizing radiation and chemical soil pollutants”.

Has prepared 8 candidates and 1 doctor of medical sciences.

Scientific interests: hygiene and toxicology of chemical plant protection products; hygienic regulation of chemical substances in the soil; complex, combined and combined action of chemical substances and ionizing radiation (experimental and epidemiological studies).

The results of scientific research have been implemented in practical activities in the form of: medical and sanitary standards (over 350) for pesticides in the air of the working area, atmospheric air, water, soil, food and agricultural raw materials; patents for utility models (8); methodological guidelines (31) on the analytical determination of pesticides in environmental objects, food and agricultural raw materials; information sheets (16) on innovations in the health care system.

The total number of publications is over 400. Among them are 1 monograph, 9 textbooks, 1 manual, 3 collections of assignments for students; 8 declarative patents for a useful model.

She graduated from Kyiv Medical Institute in 1990.

In 2008, she defended her PhD thesis entitled «Hygienic substantiation of regulations for imazethapyr herbicides’ agricultural use».

From 1990 to 2005, she worked as a Senior Laboratory Assistant and Assistant at the Department of Communal Hygiene and Human Ecology.

From 2005 to 2014, she served as an Assistant at the Department of Communal Hygiene and Human Ecology.

In 2014, she was elected to the position of Associate Professor at the Department of Communal Hygiene and Human Ecology.

In 2017, she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor and was elected to the corresponding position at the Department of Emergency Medicine and Tactical Medicine.

From 2017 to 2025, she worked as an Associate Professor at the Department of Emergency Medicine and Tactical Medicine. She was responsible for the educational and methodological activities of the Department and served as the Department’s trade union representative.

Since 2025, she has been working as an Associate Professor at the Department of Hygiene, Environmental and Occupational Health.

She is the author of more than 92 scientific publications and co-author of one educational and methodological manual.

From 2013 to 2024, Dema O.V., PhD in Medical Sciences, was a member of the Commission on Hygienic Regulation of Chemical Substances in the Atmospheric Air of Populated Areas at the State Enterprise “Committee on Hygienic Regulation of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine”.

In 2015 and 2016, she served as a member of the Admissions Committee of Bogomolets National Medical University.

She was a member of the jury of the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Technical Competition “Eco-Ukraine 2020”, the national stage of the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF 2020).

She is a member of the jury of the All-Ukrainian Competition and Defence of Research Projects by students – members of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

She serves as the Secretary of the Academic Council of the Faculty for Training Doctors for the Armed Forces of Ukraine at Bogomolets National Medical University.

From 2014 to 2015, she completed an internship in “General hygiene” at the Department of Communal Hygiene and Human Ecology with the Hygiene Section for Children and Adolescents of Bogomolets NMU.

From 2021 to 2025, she pursued full-time postgraduate studies in the specialty 222 “Medicine” at the Department of Communal and Military Hygiene and Human Ecology of Bogomolets NMU.

In 2025, she successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled  “Hygienic justification of measures to prevent the harmful effects of new pesticides on the human body during their migration from soil to adjacent environments”.

Scientific interests: hygienic standardization of chemical plant protection products in the soil.

She is the author and co-author of more than 30 scientific publications, including 11 articles, 2 information sheets, and 8 methodological guidelines.

She is involved in the scientific and teaching activities of the Department.
