SOLEMN OPENING OF MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO THE RECTOR OF KMI LAVRYK SEMEN SEMENOVYCH

The solemn event took place on 28, January, 2016: the memorial plaque to the doctor-hematologist, Honorary scientist of the UkrSSR, corresponding member in AS of UkrSSR, rector in Kyiv medical institute since 1970 until 1984, professor Lavryk Semen Semenovych was opened on the building of physical chemical building.

The family of S.S. Lavryk, University administration, teachers and students took part in the solemnities.
The rector of O.O. Bohomolets NMU, corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine, professor K.M. Amosova made the welcome speech, in which she emphasized that the most buildings and hostels of University had appeared namely during the times when professor S.S. Lavryk was at the head of KMI, and it was very symbolic that the physical chemical building, which was founded by him personally, would have the memorial plaque in his honor. The head of University thanked the author of the project, architect, assistant professor at KNUBA Larysa Bridna for highly professional work.

Professor O.P. Yavorovskyy and writer Yu. G. Vilenskyy told about brilliant episodes from life and activity of S.S. Lavryk. The son of Semen Semenovych A.S. Lavryk thanked for preservation of memory about father, wished the University to preserve the historical traditions and to multiply the glory of the best medical higher school in the country.
At the end, the flowers were put to the memorial plaque and the choir of ICC performed the famous university hymn «Gaudeamus», which words «Vivat Academia! Vivant professores! Vivat membrum quodlibet! Vivant membra quaelibet! Semper sint in flore!» emphasized the solemnity of the event.

Resume:
Lavryk Semen Semenovych (1915-1990) was born on 20, October (2, November), 1915 in village Velyka Slobidka (now Kamianets-Podilskyy district in Khmelnitsk region). Graduated from Kamianets-Podilske medical vocational school and in 1940 Vinnytsia medical institute. Since 1941, when the war started, Semen Semenovych served as a doctor in acting Red Army, then he was the head of hospital at the 3^rd Belarusian and the 1^st Ukrainian fronts.

1946-1950. Semen Lavryk occupies the post of director in Lviv scientific research institute of blood transfusion.
1954-1960 – first deputy minister of health care of UkrSSR.
1960-1970 – director in Kyiv scientific research institute of hematology and blood transfusion.
1970-1984 worked at the post of rector in Kyiv medical institute.

In 1966 S.S. Lavryk defended the doctoral dissertation on topic “Conservation of bone marrow by deep freezing”.
He is the author of over 160 scientific works, including two monographs, about blood transfusion at traumas, posttransfusion shock, etc.
The method for autotransplantation of cryopreserved bone marrow to cancer patients was for the first time in the USSR developed under supervision of Semen Lavryk. He was the head of Ukrainian scientific society of hematologists, deputy editor in the Great medical encyclopedia. He was awarded with state prizes: in 1977 – Oleksander Bohomolets prize from AS of UkrSSR; 19, December, 1992 (posthumously) – State prize of Ukraine in the sphere of science and technology for the cycle of works “Establishment of scientific basics and methods for cryoconservation of cellular suspensions and their application in medicine”.
