9 employees department have higher medical category and own by all modern diagnostic ophthalmological methods , perform the most difficult surgical intervention

During the year, about 3,500 patients are treated at the department’s clinical bases, about 1,500 surgical interventions and 4,000 consultations are performed. State-of-the-art methods of surgical treatment of cataracts and glaucoma have been implemented at the department.

Health Day was held on November 8, 2023 sight
on base University clinic of NMU .

On December 11, 2023, the Day of Health was held on the basis of the Consultative and Diagnostic Polyclinic of the University Clinic of NMU
together with the Department of Ophthalmology and Endocrinology of the National Medical University named after O.O. Bogomolets

  • All willing can free of charge examine authority sight on the most modern equipment , measure arterial pressure , level glucose in the blood and level saturation oxygen blood
  • Employees Departments practiced complex detection approach diseases and provided corresponding consultations patients .

The department is a leader in diagnostics and treatment:

  • Dystrophic diseases of the retina
  • Neuro-ophthalmological pathology
  • Different forms of glaucoma glaucoma
  • Injury to the organ of vision
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Eye lesions in general pathology of the body
  • Neoplasms of the appendages of the eye
  • Diseases of lacrimal organs
  • Diseases of the cornea

Implementation of the latest methods of diagnosis and treatment

Modern diagnostic methods

  • Determination of visual acuity ( visometry ) on modern universal tables of optotypes , phoropters .
  • Computer perimetry with visual field analysis. The exact characteristics of the distribution of sensitivity in the visual fields and the early detection of their disorders in glaucoma and other pathologies are determined with the help of computer perimetry and visual field analyzers . Results of computer analysis of visual fields with pronounced changes (concentric narrowing to 15-25 degrees and pericentral scotoma) in the advanced stage of glaucomatous optic neuropathy and macular dystrophy .
  • Autorefractometry .
  • Ultrasound diagnostics: A- scan , B- scan .
  • Electrophysiological research methods .
  • Pneumotonometry – non-contact determination of intraocular pressure.
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT) ( optical coherence tomography , OST) is a modern non-invasive non-contact method that allows visualization of various structures of the eye with a higher resolution (from 1 to 15 microns) than ultrasound. OCT is a kind of optical biopsy.
  • OCT-angiography.
  • Fluorescent angiography.
  • Fundus – camera.
  • IOL- Master .

Diagnosis of glaucoma. In glaucoma, damage to nerve fibers increases as the disease progresses. It is important to diagnose the development of glaucomatous optic neuropathy at the stage of morphological changes, when it is clinically impossible to determine the onset of the disease.

Assessment of the condition of the optic nerve disc and nerve fibers in the preclinical stage is possible with the help of OCT.

The technique provides diagnosis of the loss of retinal ganglion cells and changes in the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), which makes it possible to justify and prescribe early drug therapy.

Results of computer analysis of optical-coherence tomographic examination of retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFL) with early preclinical signs of glaucomatous optic neuropathy .

 New methods of treatment:

  • closed restrictive, panretinal laser coagulation of the retina
  • lacrimal surgery using silicone implants , closed transcanalicular dacryocystorhinostomy with microdrainage , stenting (in cooperation with the Research Institute of ENT and the Department of ENT of NMU)
  • methods of laser treatment of glaucoma ( micropulse diode selective trabeculoplasty )
  • surgical treatment of neoplasms of the organ of vision with the help of a radio wave knife
  • biocoating of the cornea using modern materials from amnion, analogues of Tutoplast , as well as atutoplastic materials
  • plastic surgery of the orbit using modern orbital implants, autoplastic materials
  • evisceration and enucleation using modern orbital implants, autoplastic materials
  • X-ray endovascular surgery of blood circulation disorders in the optic nerve system (in cooperation with the Romodanov Research Institute of Neurosurgery )
