INFORMATION ABOUT THE EMPLOYEES
The Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology is Dmytro Zhaboiedov, Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Doctor of Science in Medicine (D.Sc.), Professor, and ophthalmologist of the higher category.
Dr. Dmytro Zhaboiedov graduated from Bogomolets National Medical University in 1997, majoring in “General Medicine”.
From 1997 to 1999, he was doing his residency program in ophthalmology at the Department of Eye Diseases of Bogomolets National Medical University (Central City Clinical Hospital, Eye Trauma Center).
From 1999 to 2001, he was enrolled in a postgraduate clinical training at the Department of Ophthalmology of Shupyk Kyiv Postgraduate Medical Academy “Center of Eye Microsurgery”.
From 2001 to 2005, he was a part-time Ph.D. student at the Department of Ophthalmology of the Kyiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.
In 2005, under the leadership of the corresponding member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Science in Medicine, Professor M. Sergienko, Dr. Zhaboiedov defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Clinical studies of intraocular lens implantation methods in the absence of capsular support”.
Since 2002, he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Ophthalmology at Bogomolets National Medical University.
Since 2014, he worked as an associate professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at Bogomolets National Medical University.
In 2015, under the leadership of the corresponding member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Science in Medicine, Professor N. Pasichnykova, Dr. Zhaboiedov defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Surgical correction of aberrations of the optical system of the eye in the treatment of age-related cataracts” and obtained his Doctor of Science in Medicine (D.Sc) degree.
In 2018, he received the title of Associate Professor.
Since December 2019, he is the Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of Bogomolets National Medical University

The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: modern methods of microsurgical treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, detachments and inflammatory and dystrophic diseases of the retina, traumatic injuries of the eye, laser technologies in the treatment of diseases of the retina and glaucoma.
Implementation in clinical practice: he has developed a method to correct aphakia after cataract removal using a monoblock flexible aspheric intraocular lens SL-907 ” Centrix DZ”, US Optics; a method of implantation of a drainage valve system to surgically treat refractory forms of glaucoma; a method of diagnosing eye pseudophakial a reference sign of pseudoexfoliative syndrome in ophthalmic patients; methods of fixing the IOL SL-907 ” Centrix DZ” in the space of capsulorrhexis; and suturing of the IOL to the iris and intrasclerally.
Publications: Prof. Dmytro Zhaboiedov has more than 210 scientific works, including the National “Ophthalmology” textbook for students, 9 patents, 2 author’s certificates, and methodical recommendations.

Rimma Skrypnyk, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc.

Dr. Rimma Skrypnyk graduated from Kyiv Medical Institute named after Bogomolets with honors in 1984. During 1984-1986 she was doing her clinical residency at the Department of Ophthalmology of the Kyiv Medical Institute named after Bogomolets.
In 1986, Dr. Skrypnyk was enrolled in postgraduate studies at the Department of Ophthalmology at Kyiv Medical Institute named after Bogomolets.
From 1989 to 1999, she was working as an assistant professor at the Department of Ophthalmology.
From 1999 to 2006, she was working as an associate professor at the Department of Ophthalmology.
In 1990, Dr. Skrypnyk defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “ Features of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of optic nerve injuries” at Filatov Research Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy in Odesa.
In 2005, Dr. Skrypnyk defended her Doctor of Science in Medicine thesis entitled “Damage of the optic nerve in diabetes (pathogenesis, clinics, diagnosis, treatment)” at Filatov Research Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy in Odesa.
Since 2006, she has been working as a professor at the Department of Ophthalmology at O.O. Bogomolets

Main focus of the scientific and practical work: dedicated to diabetic eye damage in diabetes mellitus, surgical treatment of complicated cataracts in diabetes mellitus. Based on the conducted comprehensive interdisciplinary examination, the main pathogenetic mechanisms of optic nerve damage in diabetes were identified, the forms of optic neuropathies and their clinical features were established, and clinical classification of optic nerve damage was proposed.
Implementation in clinical practice: diagnostic algorithms were developed, which enable early detection and administration of pathogenetically-directed treatment, the latest diagnostic methods (computed evaluation of the central visual field, optical coherence tomography of the retina, early diagnosis of glaucoma and optic nerve diseases), new treatments of the retinal diseases, development and implementation of algorithms.
Publications: authored 270 scientific works, including 3 monographs, and 6 textbooks. National “Ophthalmology” textbook in Ukrainian language was published under her editorship. She is also a co-author of the English “Ophthalmology” textbook; co-author of the programs of the Ophthalmology discipline for students of higher medical institutions of education of III-IV levels of accreditation in the specialties “General Medicine”, “Pediatrics”, “Medicine and Preventive Medicine”, “Dentistry” and “Medical Psychology”, the author of 26 rationalizing proposals and inventions. Her Hirsch index is 7.
Under her supervision, 4 Ph.D. theses and 2 master’s theses were defended, and 1 Ph.D. thesis is in progress.
Public activity: Prof. Skrypnik is the Editor-in-chief of Ulrich’s, an international journal included in the Scopus database Periodicals Directory, EBSCO «Ophthalmology. Eastern Europe” (until 2022); member of the editorial board of the journals “Ophthalmic Journal”, “Archive of Ophthalmology” and “Halytskyi Likarskyi Visnyk”; expert in ophthalmology at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine; member of the Association of Ophthalmologists of Ukraine, the Black Sea Ophthalmic Society and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons; vice-president of the Association of Ophthalmologists, Neuro-Ophthalmologists and Glaucomatologists of Ukraine (2007-2015).

Oksana Vitovska, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc

Dr. Oksana Vitovska graduated with honors from the Kyiv Medical Institute named after Bogomolets in 1988.
Since January 2020, she is a professor at the department of Ophthalmology at Bogomolets National Medical University.

Olena Kurylina, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Professor, ophthalmologist of the higher category
Dr. Olena Kurilyna graduated with honors from Kyiv Medical Institute in 1976.
She underwent a graduate clinical training with the study of the English language during 1980 – 1982.
In 1988, she defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “Complex treatment of advanced primary glaucoma.”
Since 1985, Dr. Kurylina worked as an assistant professor, since 2000, as an associate professor of the Department of Eye Diseases of Bogomolets National Medical University.

The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: under the leadership of Dr. Kurylina, 2 master’s degrees from the People’s Republic of China were completed.
Scientific interests: development and implementation of the latest methods of microsurgical treatment of primary and secondary refractory glaucoma with implantation of extraocular micro draining implants, medical and microsurgical treatment of glaucoma, eye diseases of vascular-endocrine genesis, retinal detachment, corneal pathology, and others.
Implementation in clinical practice: new methods of laser and surgical treatment of primary and secondary glaucoma, diagnostic methods (determination of the light sensitivity of the eye, morpho-tomographic analysis of the retina, early diagnosis of preclinical manifestations of glaucoma and retinal diseases).
Publications: authored 129 publications, including co-authorship of 1 textbook, 7 methodological recommendations for practical classes with English-speaking students, has 4 rational proposals.

Tetiana Baran, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Professor, ophthalmologist of the higher category
Dr. Tetiana Baran graduated from Kyiv Medical Institute in 1980.
1986 – 1989 – postgraduate clinical training at Kyiv Medical Institute, then a Ph.D. program at Kyiv Medical Institute.
Ph.D. thesis entitled “Ophthalmopathology in patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis treatment and patients after kidney transplantation” was defended in 1994.
The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of vascular pathology of the eye. Diagnosis and treatment of neoplasms of the accessory visual structures.
Implementation into clinical practice: methods of diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the anterior and posterior segments of the eye, in particular of the traumatic origin, injuries of the eye, ophthalmic oncology of the accessory structures of the eye, physical methods of treatment (cryosurgery, laser), and the use of reconstructive surgeries.
Publications: authored 130 publications, including co-authorship of 1 textbook, 3 methodological recommendations, and 30 rational proposals.
Public activity: a member of the commission of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on the use of medical products in state medical institutions. Person in charge of the training of clinical residents and postgraduate students at the department.

Nataliia Hreben, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Professor, ophthalmologist of the higher category
Dr. Nataliia Hreben graduated with honors from Bogomolets National Medical University in 1995. During her studies, she participated in the work of the scientific group at the Department of Eye Diseases and of the Student Scientific Society of the university.
After graduating from the university, she underwent her residency training in the specialty of “Ophthalmology” at the Department of Eye Diseases of Bogomolets National Medical University and at the Department of Ophthalmology at Shupyk Kyiv Postgraduate Medical Academy. Since 1998 – she underwent a postgraduate clinical training, in 2000 – 2004 – part-time Ph.D. student at the Department of Eye Diseases of NMU. During her Ph.D. program, Dr. Hreben was conducting clinical and experimental studies of the damaging effect of light on the retina of the eye of humans and animals, on photodegeneration of the retina, the search for means that prevent the negative impact of visible light on the human eye, and the determination of the mechanism of processes that cause photodamage.
In 2005, Dr. Hreben defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “Improving the methods of diagnosis and treatment of patients with solar retinal burns (clinical-experimental research)”. Since 2000, Dr. Hreben worked at the department as a senior laboratory assistant, since 2009 as an assistant professor. Since 2013 he has been an associate professor at the department; she also was an assistant to the person person in charge of educational and methodical work of the department.

The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eye of vascular-endocrine genesis and traumatic injuries of the eye, in particular, emergency care, methods of electrophysiological research in diseases of the retina and optic nerve.
Implementation into clinical practice: methods of diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the anterior and posterior segments of the eye, in particular of traumatic origin, injuries of the organ of vision, accessory apparatus of the eye, physical methods of treatment, and the use of reconstructive operations.
Publications: authored 130 printed works, including 37 scientific articles, 2 invention patents, and 2 rationalizing proposals.
The public activity: takes an active part in the organizational and public work of the department, faculty, university, technical secretary of the State Examination Comission of the Medical Faculty #2 of NMU (2009), acting deputy dean of the medical faculty No. 2 (2010-2012), deputy head of the educational and methodical department, person in charge of the work of the methodical office of the university. On behalf of the Central Committee of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Dr. Hreben organizes the development of training programs in the disciplines under the curricula in the areas of “Medicine” with university departments, takes part in the creation of draft regulations on educational and methodical work, orders of the National Medical University and the work of the “ASU”, creation of work plans of the Central Committee, in the development of end-to-end programs, and creation methodological developments according to modern requirements.

Iryna Ryzhova, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Professor, ophthalmologist of the higher category
Dr. Iryna Ryzhova graduated from Kyiv Medical Institute and studied in clinical residency and Ph.D. program at the Department of Ophthalmology of NMU from 1991 to 1996. In 1998, she defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “Ophthalmic diagnosis, clinic, and treatment of traumatic carotid -cavernous fistula”.
The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: vascular diseases of the eye.
Under the leadership of Dr. Ryzhova, 2 masters and interns have been trained.
Implementation in clinical practice: algorithms for diagnosis and treatment of patients with optic neuropathies and rehabilitation of patients with optic nerve atrophy.
Publications: authored 32 publications, including 4 methodological recommendations, 4 inventions, and 7 rational proposals.
Public activity: was a trade union organizer of the department. During 2009 – 2020, she was the person in charge of the scientific work of the department. Person in charge of the student scientific group of the department and for the medical work based at the department of ophthalmology of the university-affiliated Oleksandrivska Clinical Hospital of Kyiv City.
Membership in professional associations: a member of the Association of Ophthalmologists – Neuroophthalmologists and Glaucomatologists of Ukraine, All-Ukrainian Alliance of Ophthalmologists.

Inna Skrypnychenko, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Professor, ophthalmologist of the higher category
Dr. Inna Skrypnychenko graduated with honors from the medical faculty of Kyiv Medical Institute in 1987. From 1987 to 1989, she was undergoing a postgraduate clinical training, in 1989 – 1992 she was a Ph.D. student at the Department of Ophthalmology, and since 1992 – an assistant professor of the department. In 1993, she defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “Clinics, diagnosis, and treatment of the ocular form of myasthenia gravis” (thesis advisor: corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, professor G. Zhaboiedov). Since 2013, she has been working as an associate professor at the department of ophthalmology of NMU.
The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma, diseases of the retina, inflammatory diseases of the eye, and laser treatment methods.
Implementation in clinical practice: clarified symptomatology and in-depth data on the features of the clinic and course of the ocular form of myasthenia gravis; proposed classification of the ocular form of myasthenia gravis; developed a method of complex treatment of patients with the ocular form of myasthenia gravis; the effectiveness of surgical treatment (thymectomy) in patients with the ocular form of myasthenia gravis has been proven. A method of treating dystrophic diseases of the retina and atrophy of the optic nerve, which includes the use of programmed pneumovacuum compression, has been developed.
Publications: authored more than 95 printed scientific works, co-authored the National “Ophthalmology” textbook, “Ophthalmology” textbook for students of medical colleges, schools, and nursing institutes studying “Nursing “, a workbook for independent work of students of medical and dental faculties, educational discipline programs “Ophthalmology” for students of higher medical institutions of education of III-IV levels of accreditation in the specialties of “Medicine”, “Pediatrics”, “Dentistry” and “Medical Psychology”, the author of the chapter in the monograph, methodical recommendations, has innovative proposals and patents for inventions.
Public activity: person in charge of residents training at the department. Member of the group of experts of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on certain issues of ophthalmology residency training, which was approved by the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 2390 dated November 1, 2021. Member of the editorial board of the international scientific and practical journal “Ophthalmology. Eastern Europe” (until 2022).

Vita Konakh, M.D., Ph.D.
Associate Professor, ophthalmologist of the higher category
Dr. Vita Konakh graduated from the Kyiv Medical Institute in 1991.
She was undergoing her postgraduate training during 1991 – 1993 at Kyiv Medical Institute. From 1993 to 2001 she was enrolled at a Ph.D. program at Kyiv Medical Institute. Her thesis topic was “Peculiarities of ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment of damage to the organ of vision in patients with tumors of the cerebello-pontine angle”.

Main focus of the scientific and practical work: Scientific interests – neuro-ophthalmology, pathology of the optic nerve and retina, diseases of the anterior segment of the eye.

Volodymyr KIREEV, M.D., Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, ophthalmologist of the higher category
Dr. Volodymyr Kireev graduated from Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute in 1987. After completing his residency training in ophthalmology, which was from 1988 to 1992, he worked as an ophthalmologist at the eye department of the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 25. From 1992-1995, he was a Ph.D. student at the same department and focused his scientific research on the study of the tear film.
In 1996, he defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled “The state of the tear film in the case of decreased tear production in patients with Sjogren ‘s disease and syndrome.”
The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: diagnosis and treatment of the “dry eye” syndrome in Ukraine, therapeutic and surgical treatment of corneal diseases with the use of excimer laser technologies and methods of ultraviolet cross-linking.
Implementation in clinical practice: pilot studies at the department (crystallography of the tear fluid, determination of specularity of the anterior surface of the cornea, determination of evaporation time of the tear film, biochemical study of tear fluid, cytology of the conjunctiva of the eyeball), which significantly expanded knowledge about the course, clinical features, and diagnostic – treatment tactics for managing the “dry eye” syndrome.
Publications: authored 85 printed scientific works, 2 educational manuals (Practical textbook in eye diseases for medical schools “Ophthalmology. Practical textbook”), 3 educational and methodological recommendations (“Allergic conjunctivitis. Current state of the problem”, and “Dry eye syndrome. Clinic diagnostics, treatment”). Dr. Kireev has 3 copyright certificates.
Public activity: a member of the Association of Ophthalmologists -Neuro-Ophthalmologists, and Glaucomatologists of Ukraine and refractive surgeons of Ukraine. Dr. Kireev has created and regularly updates the website for residents training at the Department of Ophthalmology of NMU interophth.org.ua

Pavlo SALATA, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Pavlo Salata graduated from Bogomolets National Medical University in 2002. From 2002 – 2004, he was studying for a master’s degree at the Department of Eye Diseases of Bogomolets National Medical University. From 2004 – 2007, he was doing a Ph.D. course at the Department of Eye Diseases of Bogomolets National Medical University. In 2009, he defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Determining the genes of the HLA system and cytokines in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma.” Since 2007, he has been working as an assistant at the Department of Ophthalmology.
Main focus of the scientific and practical work: research and application of new methods of diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Salata conducts medical and advisory work at Oleksandrivska Clinical Hospital. He engages in modern methods of diagnosis of diseases of the retina and optic nerve.
Implementation in clinical practice: the use of modern methods in the diagnosis of eye diseases.
Publications: authored more than 40 scientific works, co-authored methodical recommendations in ophthalmology for students of medical faculties, has a patent.
Public activity: person in charge of the educational and methodological work of the department, actively participates in the work of the department and the electronic dean’s office system. Participates in university, all-Ukrainian, and international conferences.

Nataliia Dziuba, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Nataliia Dziuba graduated from Kyiv Medical Institute in 1992.
She defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “The effectiveness of low-energy light-emitting diode therapy in the complex treatment of age-related macular degeneration.” Chief of the Ophthalmology Department of the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 9.
The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: retina and optic nerve pathology, glaucoma, and inflammatory eye diseases.
Implementation in clinical practice: the technique of low-energy pulsed chromatic light-emitting diode therapy of green (505 nm), red (625 nm), and infrared (940 nm) ranges has been implemented in the complex treatment of dry and exudative forms of age-related macular degeneration. The technique of introducing emotion and auto plasma into the subtenon space in the treatment of dystrophic diseases of the back of the eye has been implemented.
Publications: authored 42 publications, co-authored of 3 invention patents.
Public activity: expert in ophthalmology at the Department of Health Protection of the Executive Branch of the Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration).

Dr. Alla Zadorozhna graduated from Pirogov Vinnytsia State Medical University in 2001 majoring in “General Medicine”. From 2001 to 2003 – residency in ophthalmology at Vinnytsia Regional Clinical Hospital named after M. Pirogov. From 2003 to 2005, she was working as an ophthalmologist at the State Administration of Affairs No. 2 in Kyiv. From 2005 to 2006, she was working as an ophthalmologist at the emergency department of the Eye Trauma Center of Kyiv Central Medical Hospital. Since 2006, she has been the head of the glaucoma dispensary at Oleksandrivska Clinical Hospital in Kyiv. In 2015, she defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “Effectiveness of a new method of treatment of patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, taking into account the balance of immunological status.”
The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: early diagnosis of preclinical manifestations of glaucoma, prognosis and treatment of primary and secondary glaucoma using therapeutic and laser methods, pathology of the posterior segment of the eye, ophthalmic diseases of the vascular-endocrine origin.
Implementation in clinical practice: new methods of laser treatment of primary and secondary glaucoma. A method of treatment for primary open-angle glaucoma has been developed, taking into account the balance of the immunological status.
Publications: authored 12 printed scientific works and has 2 declaratory patents of Ukraine for a useful model “Method of conservative therapy of patients with POAG” and “Method of treatment of patients with POAG”.

Nataliia Tikhonchuk, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Nataliia Tikhonchuk graduated from the Ukrainian State Medical University named after Bogomolets in 1994. From 2004 to 2006, she was undergoing a postgraduate clinical training at the Department of Ophthalmology of Bogomolets National Medical University. After that, from 2006 to 2020, she was working as an ophthalmologist at the Department of Ophthalmology at Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 9.
In 2014, she defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “Diagnosis and treatment of the dry eye syndrome in women with hormonal dysfunction”.
Since 2020, she has been working as an assistant professor of the department. She carries out medical and diagnostic work at Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 9 and the University Clinic of Bogomolets NMU.
Main focuses of the scientific and practical work: diagnosis and treatment of the “dry eye” syndrome, anterior segment of the eye, inflammatory eye diseases.
Implementation in clinical practice: developed methods of ophthalmological, cytological, immunocytochemical, and immunological diagnosis of the dry eye syndrome, made it possible to predict the degree of expressiveness of the course of clinical signs of the disease and implement a complex of diagnostics and effective treatment that will improve the course of the dry eye syndrome.
Publications: authored more than 40 scientific printed works and has a declaratory patent of Ukraine for a useful model “Method of predicting the effectiveness of treatment of patients with the dry eye syndrome in patients with a post-ovariectomy syndrome”.
Public activity: Participant in national and international conferences and congresses for ophthalmologists. Person in charge of the medical work of the department.

Valentyn Rashchenko, M.D.
Assistant Professor, ophthalmologist of the higher category
Dr. Valentyn Rashchenko studied at a medical college (1968 – 1972), worked as a paramedic at an emergency medical aid station as part of the anti-shock and heart attack teams, and from 1975 to 1981 was studying at Kyiv Medical Institute. He underwent medical practice in Czechoslovakia and participated in the work of the student scientific group at the Department of Ophthalmology. Since 1981, he completed an internship at the outpatient department of the Central City Clinical Hospital of Kyiv, worked as an ophthalmologist at the eye emergency department, and then as a physician at the outpatient department.
The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: modern methods of medical and surgical treatment of patients with injuries of the organ of vision.
Implementation in clinical practice: methods and devices for x-ray localization of foreign bodies in eye injuries, improvement of surgical interventions.
Publications: has 8 scientific works, and 67 rationalizing proposals.
Public activity: a regular member of the admissions committee of Bogomolets NMU, member of the Association of Ophthalmologists -Neuro-Ophthalmologists, Glaucomatologists of Ukraine. Assistant to the person in charge of educational and educational-methodical work of the department.

In 2016, she completed an externship in Prague (Czech Republic) on age-related macular degeneration. Since 2020, she has been working at the department as an assistant professor. Dr. Yefimova performs full-time medical and advisory work.

Tetiana Komarova, M.D.

Dr. Tetiana Komarova graduated with honors from Bogomolets National Medical University in 2017 and was included in the Book of Honor of the University. During the residency training, she completed an externship at the ophthalmology department of San Martino Hospital (Genoa, Italy).
Since 2019, she has been a Ph.D. student at the Department of Ophthalmology (full-time evening form) of Bogomolets National Medical University.

Dr. Dmytro Pavlenko graduated from Bogomolets National Medical University in 2016. During his medical school, he served as a chair of the student scientific group at the Department of Ophthalmology and as a member and later a deputy head of O. Kysil Students’ Scientific Society Council. After graduation, Dr. Pavlenko underwent residency training in ophthalmology (2016-2018) and was a chief resident at the same department of Bogomolets NMU. He regularly improves his qualifications at specialized courses in ophthalmology in Ukraine and abroad. In 2016, he completed an externship at the Clinic of Eye Diseases of the Clinical Center of Serbia. Since 2020, Dr. Pavlenko has been an assistant professor and a Ph.D. student at the Department of Ophthalmology. From 2021 to 2022, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear and the Department of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School in the USA.
The main focuses of the scientific and practical work: visualization of the retina and optic nerve using state-of-the-art optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA), the impact of war on eye health and ophthalmic care during military operations, infectious diseases, and bibliometric analysis. Dr. Pavlenko is a speaker and invited expert at numerous conferences in Ukraine, Greece, Spain, Austria, and the USA. His skills include modern methods of the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases, and he follows international standards of evidence-based medicine.

Public activity: person in charge of checking for academic plagiarism of scientific texts of the department’s employees and updating the department’s section on the university’s website. Dr. Pavlenko is a scientific reviewer for the European Journal of Ophthalmology, the British Medical Journal Case Reports, and the Journal of the Canadian Medical Association. He is a volunteer, a member of organizing committees of conferences, and a moderator of sections on ophthalmology at conferences in Ukraine and abroad. He is a member of many Ukrainian, European, and American professional societies of ophthalmologists.
