Scientific activity

The department of infectious diseases in NMU was always well-known thanks to its versatile scientific work. Its employees made the significant contribution into science of infectious diseases. Its numerous scientific researches, held already during the first years in existence of department, keep their importance until now. The following scientists, who further became the heads at departments in medical higher schools in other cities, prepared and successfully defended the doctor’s dissertations:

  • T. Chorna (scientific consultant – professor A.S. Sokol, 1971) became the head at department of infectious diseases in Kharkiv medical institute;
  • I. Lokay (scientific consultant – professor A.S. Sokol, 1971) became the head at department of biology in Ternopil medical institute;
  • I. Vozianova in 1989 became the head at department of infectious diseases in Kyiv medical institute;
  • M. Koziuk (scientific consultant – professor A.S. Sokol, 1989) became the head at department of infectious diseases in Poltava medical institute;
  • M. Dykyy (scientific consultant – professor Zh.I. Vozianova, 1995) became the head at department of infectious diseases in Ivano-Frankovsk medical institute;
  • N. Kozko (scientific consultant – professor Zh.I. Vozianova, 1996) became the head at department of infectious diseases in Kharkiv medical university;
  • V. Moroz (scientific consultant – professor Zh.I. Vozianova, 2002) became the head at department of infectious diseases in Vinnytsia national medical university;
  • K. Duda (scientific consultant – professor Zh.I. Vozianova, 2008) since 2010 became the head at department of infectious diseases in P.L. Shupika NMAPE;
  • A. Golubovska (scientific consultant – professor Zh.I. Vozianova, 2009) defended the doctor’s dissertation on topic “Possibilities on control for course and efficiency in treatment of chronic hepatitis C using non-invasive methods of diagnostics”, in 2009 became the head at department of infectious diseases in Bogomolets NMU.
  • V. Shkurba (scientific consultant – professor Zh.I. Vozianova, 2009) defended the doctor’s dissertation on topic “Possibilities for unification using computer programs for diagnostics and treatment of different variants for viral hepatitis”, in 2011 he was appointed to the post of professor in department of infectious diseases in NMU.

Due to results from scientific researches on actual problems for last 5 years they published 12 informative letters and 5 methodological recommendations. The employees of department took part in development and review of Clinical Protocols on diagnostics and treatment of HIV-infection in adults and teenagers at MHC of Ukraine (2006) diagnostics and treatment of hepatitis C in HIV-infected adults and teenagers (2008), clinical protocol on diagnostics and treatment of chronic viral hepatitis, took the direct participation in development of Concept on strategy of actions by the Government of Ukraine, directed to prevention from prevalence of hepatitis for the period up to 2018 and National program on provision with prevention of HCV-infection, aid and treatment of HCV-infected and patients with CHC for 2008-2018.

Thanks to scientific developments the employees at department received 8 patents for useful model for recent years.

The important directions in scientific activity of department at present moment are the fulfillment of initiative searching scientific research works “Peculiarities for management of patients with emergencies in the clinic of infectious diseases” and “Peculiarities for course of viral injuries in the liver with different etiology”. The department is also engaged into problems in medicine of travels, traveling diseases, tropical infections, “pediatric” diseases in adults, helminthoses, infectious nervous system disturbances.

The department of infectious diseases successfully performed the scientific practical conferences with international participation:

  • “Modernity and infections”, devoted to 85th anniversary for department of infectious diseases in NMU on 10.11.2010;
  • “Viral hepatitis in practice of doctors-interns: epidemiology, diagnostics, treatment and prevention” on 12.05.2011.

The scientific practical conference with international participation “Actual infectious diseases and medicine of travels” is being prepared.

For last 3 academic years the employees of department made 96 scientific reports at different level of scientific practical conferences with international participation, symposiums, congresses and conventions, published 43 scientific theses in different collections, 53 scientific articles in editions, acknowledged by HEB of Ukraine to be special ones. For last academic year the students in NMU, while performing the researches at department of infectious diseases, published 6 scientific works at different conferences.

Since 1998 the department was involved into edition of scientific journal “Modern infections”, which is included into the list of scientific special editions of Ukraine, where the main results from dissertation works may be published, since 2012 – “Clinical infectology and parasitology (international scientific practical journal)”, which chief editor is now the head at department of infectious diseases, chief extraordinary specialists at MHC of Ukraine due to specialty “infectious disease” Olga Anatoliyivna Golubovska.
