03.05.2026 The Complex Patient in Pediatric Practice
The Department of Pediatrics of Postgraduate Education at Bogomolets National Medical University, the Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology, Rheumatology and Cardiac Surgery at Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian Association of Medical Education co-organized a hybrid scientific and practical conference titled “The Complex Patient in Pediatric Practice”, held on April 30 in Kyiv. The main goal of the conference was to present modern approaches to the diagnosis, treatment, and multidisciplinary management of children with complex clinical cases. The event brought together leading experts in the fields of pediatrics, pediatric cardiology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, allergology, and related specialties.
The program was opened by:
Yuriy Antypkin, Academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) of Ukraine, President of the Ukrainian Academy of Pediatrics;
Yuriy Marushko, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Pediatrics of Postgraduate Education;
Tetiana Marushko, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology, Rheumatology and Cardiac Surgery;
Nadiia Rudenko, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the NAMS of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Cardiology, Rheumatology and Cardiac Surgery.
In their opening remarks, they emphasized the current challenges facing pediatrics amidst the war and the ongoing healthcare system reform.
The plenary session of the conference was dedicated to the organization of medical care for children, modern approaches to managing complex patients, achievements in Ukrainian pediatric cardiology, and the operation of supracluster hospitals.
The conference featured 45 presentations and a masterclass by a certified trainer. The presentations represented Kyiv and most Ukrainian regions, including Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Vinnytsia, Ternopil, Lviv, Odesa, Rivne, Khmelnytskyi, and Kharkiv.
During the symposia, participants discussed pressing issues in:
Pediatric cardiorheumatology (with a focus on the specific management of juvenile idiopathic arthritis);
Specialized issues of pharmacotherapy in pediatrics;
Pediatric pulmonology, allergology, and gastroenterology (including algorithms for allergic rhinitis therapy, modern antibiotic therapy, and the diagnosis of rare diseases).
A dedicated section for young scientists was also presented.
The conference demonstrated the high standard of Ukrainian pediatric science and medical education, fostering professional interaction among specialists and the implementation of modern, evidence-based approaches into pediatric practice.

Department news: 2018-2020.
The department has prepared 2 educational films: “Emergency assistance in stopping circulation and breathing in children” (basic course).
In 2019 for the first time in Ukraine the department prepared and implemented a new cycle of thematic improvement differentially for different specialists – doctors of allergists, pediatricians, GPs – family medicine, other specialists of “Fundamentals of molecular allergy diagnostics”.
For the first time in Ukraine the department has prepared and implemented new cycles of thematic improvement “Selected issues of allergy with the basics of molecular allergy diagnostics”, “Selected issues of pediatrics with basics of molecular allergy diagnostics”.
Professor Marushko Yu.V., Associate Professor Moskovenko O.D. presented a poster presentation at the International Symposium on Molecular Allergology, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, November 28-30, 2019. – «CLINICAL CASE OF SENSITIZATION TO HOUSE DUST MITES, ACCOMPANIED MULTIPLE CROSS-SENSITIZATION TO PANALLERGEN TROPOMYOSIN BASED ON THE MULTIPLEX ALLERGY»
