Subjects and main directions of the SSG work:

Meetings of the SSG are dedicated to the deepening of knowledge and improvement of practical students’ skills in various areas of internal medicine. The current problems of rheumatological, cardiovascular, pulmonological, gastroenterological diseases are studied. Modern classification criteria of many nosologies, diagnostic algorithms and a scientific background for the effectiveness of numerous treatment methods are discussed. Emphasis is placed on topics and diseases that are not included or are partially covered in the educational program on internal medicine.

The activity of SSG is aimed at the professional formation of future doctors and scientists, developing clinical thinking and differential approach for the diagnostics and treatment of diseases due to:

Review of current tasks in the internal medicine.
Opportunities for students to perform as speakers at meetings, improving the skills of presenting scientific material and oratory skills.
An interdisciplinary approach for the study of individual diseases through association with other scientific groups.
Examination of patients and analysis of case histories together with the supervisor.
Practicing the skills of history taking, general inspection of patients and acquirement the technique of physical examination.
Explanation-based learning of laboratory and instrumental analysis results.
Master-classes of musculoskeletal ultrasound and EchoCG.

Main topics of SSG:

Conditions are created for the realization of the scientific potential of students and their active inclusion in research activities, participation in the All-Ukrainian Olympiads of Internal Medicine, the All-Ukrainian Student Research Competitions, the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Conferences of Students, the April Student’s Scientific Session, scientific forums abroad.

History of SSG

In the 1970-90’s the scientific work of SSG was conducted under the direction of Professor Sakharchuk I.I. and Associate Professor Denysenko G.T. In 1996-2016 the scientific work of SSG of department was directed by Professor Dudka P.F. and Assistant Professor Bodaretska O.I., in 2016-2018 – Associate Professor Fedkov D.L., in 2018-2021 – Associate Professor Zagorodniy M.I. Since 2021 the scientific work of SSG of department has been directed by Assistant Professor Petelytska L.B.

Among former participants of the Student research group of department there are PhDs and MDs, who successfully work in universities and leading hospitals of Ukraine.

On October 14th, 2011 the Interdepartmental Student Scientific Conference “Actual problems of theoretical and clinical medicine. Ethical and deontological aspects of the training of modern doctor” was organised by staff of Department of Internal Medicine of Dental Faculty and was devoted to the 170th anniversary of the Bogomolets National Medical University.

Presidium of interdepartmental Student Scientific Conference was directed by Professor Iaremenko O.B., October 14, 2011.

In 2012-2013 study year the student research group of Department of Internal Medicine of Dental Faculty was participant of 9 interdepartmental university conference, master-class and seminars. The research works of 40 students were awarded by certificates, diplomas and prizes.

In 2012-2013 the students of student research group of Department of Internal Medicine of Dental Faculty were published with co-authors 10 abstracts of scientific conferences and articles.

In 2013/2014 study year the student research group of Department of Internal Medicine of Dental Faculty organized and was participant of 18 student scientific conferences, master-classes and seminars. The research works of 59 students were awarded by certificates, diplomas and prizes.

In 2014-2015 the students of student research group of the department were published with co-authors 7 scientific works.

In 2015-2016 study year the student research group of the department was participant of 14 interdepartmental university conference, master-class and seminars. The research works of 49 students were awarded by certificates, diplomas and prizes.

The 5th year student of the Medical Faculty №2, Daria Novosad, became the winner of the I stage and received a 2nd degree Diploma of the II stage of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad among the Ukrainian Highest Medical Schools (speciality: internal diseases) (Ivano-Frankivsk, April 21-22, 2016).

Conducting a student Olympiad in internal medicine among students of 4-6 courses of medical faculties No. 1 and No. 2.

Students of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 studied the basics of echocardiography.

Students of the club studied the basics of ultrasound of the abdominal organs at a joint meeting of the CIS of the Departments of Internal Medicine No. 3 and Internal Medicine No. 1.

Students of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3 studied the principles of ultrasound of the musculoskeletal system.

In January 2024, a student of the club Kravchenko V.G. received a grant from the European Alliance of Rheumatological Associations to conduct a research project “Osteoarthritis with endotype of calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition: identification and diagnostic methods for patient stratification”.

The active members of the SSS department include more than 40 students of different faculties of Bogomolets NMU from 3 to 6 years. Students from other HMEIs (I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Donetsk National Medical University) and doctors from different regions of Ukraine (Lviv, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Rivne, Uzhhorod, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Volyn, Donetsk, Cherkasy, Sumy regions) also regularly participate in the online meetings of the CIS.

The Student Scientific Club invites students of all faculties and courses to active cooperation and involvement in the scientific life of the University!
