Main directions of work:

Rheumatology:

  • optimization of disease-modifying and symptomatic therapy of immuno-dependent inflammatory diseases of the joints and osteoarthrosis, including rational use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, glucocorticoids;
  • implementation and improvement of biological therapy of systemic rheumatic diseases;
  • improving the diagnosis, prognosis, and pharmacotherapy of systemic necrotizing vasculitis;
  • evaluation of the role of bone metabolism markers in assessment and optimization of treatment for psoriatic arthritis and spondylitis;
  • modification of for cardiovascular risk factors in patients with systemic connective tissue diseases;
  • optimization of diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of systemic rheumatic diseases by studying the pathogenetic role of immunochemical markers of inflammation and vascular wall lesions.

 

Cardiology:

  • study of the pathophysiology of the early stages of heart failure caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic coronary heart disease; improvement of methods of its pharmacotherapy;
  • development and implementation of the basic principles of cardiotonic therapy for pulmonary cardiac and chronic heart failure;
  • development of differentiated approaches to the use of metabolic cytoprotectants in acute myocardial infarction;
  • development of methods of membrane protection in case of electrical myocardial instability in patients with COPD in combination with coronary heart disease.

 

Pulmonology:

  • development of new, differentiated approaches to inhalation therapy, immunocorrection and metabolic therapy in COPD;
  • study of the adaptogenic effect of normobaric hypoxytherapy on the immune system of the residents of Kyiv and Kyiv region under the conditions of small doses radiation exposure.

For the previous reporting period (2011-2024) by the results of the main directions of scientific research of the department:

  • 7 candidate theses and 1 PhD thesis were defended;
  • 4 PhD dissertations are carried out on the basis of the department;
  • for the current year, 4 NDRs are being implemented, which are financed on the basis of business contracts;
  • employees of the department are members of the editorial board of 9 specialized journals and reviewers of 13 journals, of which 8 are indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science;
  • more than 1,200 scientific works have been published, including in publications indexed in Scopus and Web of Science;
  • total Hirsch index according to Scopus – 28, according to Google Scholar – 65;
  • 6 textbooks were published (including 2 national ones co-authored with other Ukrainian Medical University), 12 study guides, 22 practical guides and monographs, 10 reference books, 21 methodological recommendations (including 12 methodological developments in English for practical classes of students of the Faculty of Dentistry) ;
  • received 18 patents for utility models;
  • 20 innovations were developed and included in the Industry Register of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine;
  • more than 700 reports have been presented at forums of various levels, including symposia, congresses, conferences in Ukraine, Turkey, Israel, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Canada.

Advanced training of teachers and continuous postgraduate medical education at the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3

 

The teaching staff of the department takes advanced training courses, both medical and pedagogical, every year. Associate Professor Olena Valeriivna Smirnova is responsible for improving the qualifications of teachers of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 3.

In 2021-2023, 5 employees received specialization, 20 employees completed thematic improvement courses, 4 teachers participated in internships (including abroad). During this period, scientific and pedagogical workers of the department took part in 382 events (more than 80 of them are international).

For pedagogical improvement, the department regularly conducts mutual attendance of classes, participation in thematic improvement courses, experienced teachers give pedagogical thematic lectures.

  • Pathophysiological mechanisms of development, diagnosis, treatment of acute coronary syndromes
  • Early Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction in Patients with Q-Myocardial Infarction: Pathophysiological Mechanisms, Features of Remodeling, and Efficacy of Treatment with the Inclusion of ß-Adrenergic Blockers
  • Features of the clinical course, changes in systolic and diastolic function of the left ventricle and treatment of myocardial infarction with the Q wave in elderly patients
  • Influence of systemic inflammation on the course of atherosclerosis in connective tissue diseases
  • Pathophysiological mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment of acute and chronic heart failure of various genesis with reduced and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction
  • Drug prophylaxis of stroke and cardiovascular complications in patients with arterial hypertension
