Head of Department

Olena Khaustova– Head of the Department, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, psychiatrist of the highest category, psychologist, psychotherapist, master of sociology and PR, expert of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in the “Psychiatric Care.”

Khaustova O.O. graduated with honors from the Voroshilovgrad (Luhansk) State Medical Institute in 1987 with a “Medical Care” degree. After her internship, she worked at the Departmental Hospital at the Luhansk station, where she was a psychiatrist-narcologist (1988-1991), head of the psychoneurological department (1991-2002), and chief freelance psychiatrist-narcologist of the Medical Service of the Donetsk Railway (1995-2002).

From 2002 to 2009, she was a senior and leading researcher at the Ukrainian Research Institute of Social and Forensic Psychiatry and Drug Abuse of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. From 2009 to 2011, she was an associate professor at the Bogomolets National Medical University’s Department of General and Medical Psychology and Pedagogy. From 2011 to 2016, she was the head of the department at the Ukrainian Research Institute of Social and Forensic Psychiatry and Drug Abuse of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. She has been a professor at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy of the Bogomolets National Medical University since 2016 and the head of the department since 2023.

In 1993, she defended her PhD thesis in the specialty 14.01.16—psychiatry on the topic of “Maladyadaptive reactions of the psyche in locomotive crew workers.” In 2008, she defended her doctoral thesis in the specialty 14.01.16 – psychiatry, “Mental and psychosomatic disorders in patients with metabolic syndrome X (diagnosis, clinic, prevention, treatment).” In 2008, she was awarded the academic title of Senior Researcher in the specialty of psychiatry; in 2014, she was awarded the academic title of Professor in the specialty of psychiatry.

Has a second higher education: graduated with honors from the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management in 2004 with a degree in “Sociology of Management and Public Relations.” English proficiency level – B2.

Main areas of scientific and practical work: modern methods of diagnosis and therapy of mental disorders in the context of psychosomatic medicine and consultative-liaison psychiatry; medical-psychological support and psychosocial rehabilitation and support of patients with mental and behavioral disorders associated with stress and loss; psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology, proactive psychological and psychiatric care;

Implementation in clinical practice: A method of correcting mental and psychosomatic disorders in patients with metabolic syndrome X, a method of diagnosing anxiety disorders in patients with a psychosomatic profile, and a method of assessing a doctor’s attitude to mastering communication skills using the Ukrainian version of the scale “СOMMUNICATION SKILLS ATTITUDE SCALE” (CSAS-U) have been developed.

Vitaliy Omelyanovych – MD, DSc., PhD, professor. He holds the position of professor of the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy.

He received his education at the Donetsk State Medical Institute named after M. Gorky, majoring in “Medical Affairs” (1994).

In 2003, he defended his candidate’s thesis on the topic: “Post-traumatic stress disorders in employees of internal affairs bodies (early diagnosis and psychoprophylaxis)”.

In 2013, he defended his doctoral thesis: “Violations of psychological adaptation to service in internal affairs bodies (gender characteristics, mechanisms of formation, system of psychocorrection and psychoprophylaxis)”.

Sphere of professional interests: medical psychology, psychiatry and narcology.

Author and co-author of more than 120 publications in scientific publications, including: 5 monographs, 17 textbooks and teaching aids.

Tsira Abdriakhimova – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor.
She holds the position of Professor at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy.

Graduated from Donetsk Medical University in 1996 with a specialization in “General Medicine.” In 2016, she was awarded the highest qualification category in “Medical Psychology.” In 2019, she obtained certification as a specialist in “Psychotherapy.”

In 2003, she defended her PhD dissertation on the topic: “Early Diagnosis, Clinical Features, Prevention, and Correction of Stress-Related Neurotic Disorders in High School Students.”
In 2015, she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Non-psychotic Mental Disorders Due to Significant Somatic Health Impairments: The Case of Partial Loss of Vision of Traumatic Origin.”

Areas of professional interest: Psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, psychiatry, medical psychology.

She is the author and co-author of over 100 publications in scientific journals, including six textbooks and educational manuals. She is fluent in English and Georgian.

Koval Iryna  – Doctor of Psychological Sciences, Professor.

Holds the position of Professor at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy.

In 1986, she graduated from the Lviv State Medical Institute, Order of Friendship of Peoples, specializing in Pediatrics. In 2000, she completed a Master’s degree in “Practical Psychology” at the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management.

In 2003, she defended her PhD dissertation on the topic: “Psychological Characteristics of Conflicts in the Process of Joint Educational Activities of Students.”
In 2018, she defended her doctoral dissertation on the topic: “The Medical-Psychological Paradigm of Managing Somatic Patients with Comorbid Mental Disorders.”

Chaban Oleh — Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine.

Holds the position of Professor at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy.

First Vice President of the Association of Psychotherapists and Psychoanalysts of Ukraine, Scientific Director of the Institute of Social Research and Psychotherapy (Ukraine); member of the Association of Psychotherapists of Ukraine, certified psychoanalyst of the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP), the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), member of the European Federation of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (EFPP), and member of the International Association of Group Psychotherapy (IAGP).

Founder of the Ukrainian leading scientific school of psychosomatic medicine; under his guidance, the following were developed: a comprehensive system of psychotherapeutic transformation of relevant personal life strategies for patients with chronic non-communicable diseases; a differentiated system of measures for providing specialized psychological, psychiatric, and psychotherapeutic assistance to victims of man-made accidents, catastrophes, and terrorist acts. Based on his experience working with victims at the Sknyliv airfield (Lviv, 2002), the theater on Dubrovka (Russia, Moscow, 2002), and in Beslan (North Ossetia, Russia, 2004), Chaban O.S. developed effective psychotherapeutic and psycho-corrective methods for working with victims of terrorist acts and man-made disasters, which were subsequently implemented in assisting participants of the ATO/OOS, their family members, and internally displaced persons from Eastern Ukraine.

Chaban Oleh Sozontovych is the author of more than 450 scientific publications. Co-author of the international clinical guideline Risk Management of Terrorism Induced Stress – Guidelines for the Golden Hours (Who, What, and When) – NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW), NATO Science for Peace and Security Series – E: Human and Societal Dynamics, 2020; textbooks, methodological recommendations, monographs, and national clinical protocols and guidelines.
In 1997, defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Pathomorphosis of Neuroses (Clinical-Psychopathological, Socio-Psychological, and Constitutional-Biological Regularities)”.

Asanova Azize – Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy.

Graduated in 2005 from the Crimean State Medical University named after S.I. Georgievsky, receiving a full higher education in the specialty “General Medicine” and qualifying as a physician. In 2007, she was awarded the title of specialist doctor in the specialty “Psychiatry.” In 2017, she also received the title of specialist doctor in the specialty “Psychotherapy.”

In 2010, she defended her Candidate’s dissertation on the topic: “Clinical and Psychopathological Features of Cognitive Impairments in Patients with Depressive Disorder.” Professional interests: mental and psychosomatic disorders. Author of 33 scientific works, co-author of 2 textbooks, and 5 educational manuals. Fluent in English.

Responsible for work with foreign students at the department. Practicing psychiatrist, first category, with 16 years of experience. Practicing psychotherapist with 5 years of experience. Mukharovska Inna – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor.

Position of Associate Professor of the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy. Graduated from the Bogomolets National Medical University in 2007 with specialization “Medical Psychology”, Master’s degree – in 2008.

In 2012 defended PhD thesis on the topic “Medical-psychological help for caregivers of incurable cancer patients in palliative medicine”. In 2018 defended doctoral thesis on the topic “Clinical-psychological characteristics of psycho-emotional disorders and the system of medical-psychological correction and support in oncological practice (phenomenology, mechanisms of psychopathogenesis and adaptive model of psycho-oncological help)”.

In 2022, he was certified as a specialist in “Medical Psychology.” In 2023, he completed the certified course “Clinical Neuropsychology: Child and Adult.” In 2024, he completed a specialization cycle in “Psychiatry” and received the qualification of a psychiatrist. Fluent in English.

Professional interests: child psychology, pediatric psycho-oncology, neuropsychology, psychological correction, clinical psychology, psychotherapy, pathopsychological diagnostics, psychosomatic medicine.

Zelenko Yelyzaveta – an assistant at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy. She is currently a second-year postgraduate student specializing in «Medical Psychology».

She graduated from O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University in 2022, obtaining a full higher education degree in medical psychology and qualifying as a medical psychologist. She also became a psychiatrist in 2024, demonstrating her commitment to the field.

In 2021, she successfully completed an 8-step program on psychological support for adults, children, and adolescents who have experienced the loss of loved ones due to death. This program, which included both basic and advanced courses, was provided by the Institute of Health Psychology and the National Center for Grief Support. She is currently pursuing training in «Group Psychoanalysis».

Her professional interests include individual and group psychotherapy for personality disorders, grief, ambiguous loss, as well as neuropsychology and neuropsychiatry.

She has been working as a medical psychologist since 2022, with teaching and research experience beginning in early 2024. She is fluent in English and has a basic understanding of Japanese.

 

Lysiana Halyna – Assistant at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy.

A psychiatrist, medical psychologist, and WHO-certified trainer and supervisor for the mhGAP program.

Graduated in 2015 from O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University with a degree in “Medical Psychology” and an average grade of 4.6. Worked at KNP KOR “OPNMO” in chronic care and first-episode psychosis departments, providing psychotherapeutic and counseling support to patients and their families. Experience includes working with schizophrenia, epilepsy, bipolar affective disorder (BAD), borderline personality disorder, suicidal tendencies, and trauma resulting from emotional, physical, or sexual abuse.

In 2020, specialized at the National Institute of Sexology and Sexual Health as a trainer in sexual and reproductive literacy. Conducts training and lectures for children, adolescents, and parents on sexual education.

Certified Gestalt therapist accredited by the National Association of Gestalt Therapists of Ukraine since 2021, with specializations in body psychotherapy, sexology, and trauma therapy (violence, incest). Practicing Gestalt therapy since 2014. Currently continuing education in group analysis at the Association of Psychotherapists and Psychoanalysts of Ukraine.

At the department, responsible for supervising qualification theses and coordinating the student research society.

Professional interests: psychotherapy, clinical psychology, psychiatry, pathopsychological diagnostics, psychosomatic medicine, sexology, and sexual education.

Actively participates in scientific conferences and is a co-author of scientific publications. Frequently invited as an expert on psychology and sexology topics on television (“1+1,” “Kyiv.Life”). Since 2018, she has published psychoeducational and outreach articles in media outlets such as Ukrayinska Pravda. Zhyttia, The Village, and others.

 

 

Misak Ilona – Assistant at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy.

Graduated in 2018 from O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University with a degree in “Medical Psychology” and the qualification of a specialist physician.

From 2018 to 2019, completed an internship at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Postgraduate Education of O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University in the specialty “Medical Psychology.” Later retrained in the specialty “Psychiatry.” In 2024, certified as a specialist in “Psychotherapy.”

Co-author of a manual and two scientific papers.

Nikolaieva Oleksandra – PhD candidate, second-year postgraduate student, and Assistant at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy at  Bohomolets National Medical University.

Graduated in 2012 from O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University, specializing in “Medical Psychology.”

In 2014, completed an internship at the Psychological Assistance Center based at the NDSL “Okhmatdyt.”

Since 2015, worked as a medical psychologist with the personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

In June 2024, obtained a specialization in “Psychiatry.”

Currently serves as a medical psychologist and psychiatrist in the Rehabilitation Department of the State Institution Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics, National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Rusanov – Assistant at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy at Bohomolets National Medical University.

A 2nd-year PhD student specializing in “222 medicine/psychiatry.” Graduated from the 3rd medical faculty with a degree in “pediatrics” from O.O. Bohomolets National medical university (NMU) in 2016 and completed an internship in “general practice – family medicine” in 2018. In 2021, obtained a specialization in “Health care organization and management” from P. L. Shupyk National medical academy of postgraduate education. In 2022, received the qualification of specialist physician in “Psychiatry,” and in 2024, became a specialist in “Psychotherapy.”

Completed training at the Ukrainian gestalt institute (2017-2022), accredited as a gestalt therapist. Additionally, studied at the Ukrainian institute of cognitive-behavioral therapy (UICBT), receiving certification as a CBT consultant (2022) and Schema therapist (ISST, 2023).

Psychiatrist, psychotherapist, clinical psychologist, trauma-focused therapist, schema therapist, group therapist, mhGAP trainer and supervisor under the WHO program, specialist in working with eating disorders, regular participant and speaker at national and international scientific conferences, congresses, seminars in the field. A member of the working groups of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on the development of clinical guidelines.

A member of the group of co-authors of the first protocol for the treatment of PTSD in Ukraine using virtual exposure therapy. PhD student in her third year, specializing in “Medical Psychology.” Graduated in 2021 from Bogomolets National Medical University, obtaining a degree in “Medical Psychology” and the qualification of medical psychologist. In 2022, she was awarded the title of specialist doctor in “Medical Psychology.” In 2023, she obtained the qualification of specialist doctor in “Psychiatry.” In 2023, she earned a diploma in Graduate and Postgraduate International Training in Clinical Hypnosis. Certified trainer and supervisor of the WHO program “mhGAP.”

She has scientific publications based on research conducted in collaboration with the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy of Bogomolets National Medical University. She is a regular participant in scientific conferences, congresses, and seminars in her field. Proficient in English with an EFSET certificate (2022) at the B2 (Upper Intermediate) level.

Her professional interests include psychological counseling, psychological correction, clinical psychology, psychotherapy, pathopsychological diagnostics, and psychosomatic medicine. She is responsible for postgraduate work and the preparation and organization of scientific and practical events involving the department.

Frankova Iryna Candidate of Medical Sciences, Assistant at the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy.

Graduated in 2009 from Bogomolets National Medical University with a degree in “Medical Psychology” and obtained the qualification of a medical psychologist. In 2010, she was awarded the title of specialist doctor in “Medical Psychology.”

In 2019, she defended her PhD thesis on the topic: “The Phenomenon of Social Self-Isolation in Patients with Neurotic Disorders and Non-Pathological Behavioral Transformation.”

Her professional interests include acute psychological trauma, the consequences of terrorist attacks, PTSD prevention, post-stress and psychosomatic disorders, refugee mental health, and psychotherapy.

Author of over 90 scientific publications. Regular participant in scientific conferences, congresses, and seminars in her field. Scientometric profiles: Web of Science – h-index = 1, Scopus h-index = 2, Google Scholar – 6. Proficient in English and German.

At the department, she is responsible for international cooperation and the student scientific circle.
