The Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Psychotherapy at Bohomolets National Medical University actively engages in clinical and advisory activities aimed at providing medical and psychological assistance to patients with various psychosomatic and mental disorders.
Key Areas of Clinical and Advisory Work
Medical and Psychological Diagnostics. The department focuses on identifying and analyzing psychosomatic and mental disorders using modern diagnostic methods. Particular attention is paid to anxiety and depressive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and psychosomatic manifestations observed in general medical patients. The diagnostic process includes clinical interviews, standardized questionnaires, and psychological tests, allowing for the assessment of emotional state, stress levels, adaptation capacities, and the impact of somatic symptoms on the patient’s quality of life.
Psychological Support and Correction. Specialists at the department provide psychological support to patients facing challenging life circumstances, such as loss, traumatic experiences, or chronic illnesses. A special focus is placed on supporting military personnel, veterans, and their families, helping them cope with the consequences of war and adapt to civilian life. Methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), art therapy, and others are employed. These approaches help reduce anxiety and depression, improve emotional stability, and enhance stress-coping abilities.
Rehabilitation. Rehabilitation efforts aim to restore the psychological well-being of individuals with mental disorders and somatic illnesses. The department actively implements psychological rehabilitation programs for patients with PTSD, anxiety, and depressive disorders, particularly in the post-war context. Rehabilitation includes individual and group sessions focused on developing psychological flexibility, resilience, and finding new meanings in life. A strong emphasis is placed on combining psychotherapeutic methods with somatic support to achieve holistic results.
Consultative Assistance. Consultative assistance includes individual consultations for patients with psychosomatic complaints, chronic pain syndromes, addictions, or eating disorders. Group sessions are also conducted, where patients can share experiences and receive professional support. Consultations are aimed at identifying problems, developing individualized treatment plans, and teaching self-regulation techniques. This approach helps patients gain confidence, improve their emotional well-being, and enhance their quality of life.
