Sergiy Gychka

Head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy (since 2021), Doctor of Medical Sciences (2001), Professor (2002), MD, PhD, Pathologist, Pediatric Pathologist, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (2021), Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine (2008), Member of the International Academy of Pathology, President of the Association of Pathologists of Ukraine (since 2010).

He graduated with honors from the Medical Faculty No. 2 of the Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute (1982). He studied in clinical residency in the specialty “Pathological Anatomy” at the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute (1982-1984). Likewise, he did an on-the-job training at the Institute of Pathology of the Karl-Theum Clinic (Cottbus, Germany) (2012-2013).

In 1985-1994 he was an assistant at the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Bogomolets Medical Institute, in 1994-1995 he was an associate professor of the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Kyiv Medical University of the Ukrainian Association of Folk Medicine, since 1995 he has been the head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy, Histology, and Forensic Medicine of the Kyiv Medical University, since 1985 he has been a pathologist at medical institutions in Kyiv (part-time), head of the pathological department of Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 1. Consultant of the Pathology Department of the University Clinic of the Bogomolets National Medical University (since 2021).

PhD thesis topic: “Structural changes in myocardium in conditions of hormonal damage and their pharmacological correction” (1985).

Doctoral dissertation topic: “Pathomorphology of the lungs in the acute period of myocardial infarction” (2001).

Author and co-author of more than 300 scientific papers, 10 monographs, textbooks and manuals, 19 patents for inventions.

Member of the Academic Council of the Bogomolets National Medical University, the Academic Council of the Medical Faculty No. 2, and the Cyclic Methodological Commission for Natural Sciences. Member of the editorial boards of scientific professional journals “Pathology” (Web of Science), “Clinical Endocrinology and Endocrine Surgery”, “Ukrainian Scientific and Medical Youth Journal”.

Liubov Zakhartseva

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor;

Head of the Pathology Department of the Kyiv City Clinical Oncology Center (since 1999), Doctor of Medical Sciences (2011), Professor (2020), MD, PhD, Pathologist. She graduated from the Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute (1983) and was sent to work at the Turkmen State Medical Institute (1983-1986). She worked at the Kyiv Research Radiology and Oncology Institute as a junior researcher (1986-1989) and a pathologist (1989-1992) in the Department of Pathomorphology. Since 1992, Liubov Zakhartseva has been working at the pathology department of the Kyiv City Clinical Oncology Center. PhD thesis topic: “Morphological diagnosis of histiocytic sarcoma” (1993). Doctoral dissertation topic: “Molecular biological principles of individualization of treatment of young patients with breast cancer” (2011).

Since 1995, she was one of the first in Ukraine to start immunohistochemical studies for the diagnosis of human diseases, held conferences with international participation, trainings, master classes for pathologists of Ukraine, created and heads the community of Ukrainian pathologists in immunohistochemical studies. She completed an internship at the PhenoPath laboratory with Professor Allen Gawn (USA, Seattle, 1998, 2000). She is a member of the European organization “Europa Donna”. Likewise, she has repeatedly participated in European congresses of pathologists (2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2014), European conferences on breast cancer (2004, 2006, 2010), international courses of the US Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP, 2005).

In addition to her practical and scientific work, she worked as an assistant at the Bogomolets National Medical University as an assistant at the Department of Pathological Anatomy (1993-1995), Oncology (2004-2015), and at the Institute of Genetic and Regenerative Medicine of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine as a leading researcher at the DNA Laboratory. In 2016–2020, she was the Head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy No. 1 of the Bogomolets National Medical University.

She is the author of 3 textbooks, 1 monograph, 8 methodological recommendations, 58 articles in leading journals, and 4 patents for inventions.

Liubov Zakhartseva is the head of the Immunohistochemical Research Unit at the Association of Pathologists of Ukraine; member of the editorial board of the Oncology journal. Member of the advisory and expert groups at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine “Standards for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Myeloproliferative Diseases” (2014-2016), “Standards for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Testicular Tumors” (2016), “Standards for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Lymphoproliferative Diseases in Children” (2012-2015).

Alina Balabai 

Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD), Associate Professor;

MD, Pathologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences (2011). She graduated from the Bogomolets National Medical University (2004), where she worked as a senior laboratory assistant (2004–2010), assistant professor (2010–2019), and since 2019 – associate professor.

PhD thesis topic: “Structural changes of the kidneys in experimental arterial hypertension and its pharmacological correction” (2011). Field of scientific and practical interests: pathomorphological features, etiological factors and pathogenesis of kidney and heart diseases.

Responsible for international cooperation of the department. Curator of educational and pedagogical work at the Institute of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD), Associate Professor;

MD, Pathologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences (1996). Graduated from Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute (1987). Postgraduate student of the department (1993-1996), since 1995 – assistant of the department, since 2006 – associate professor of the department.

PhD thesis topic: “Functional morphology of the myocardium in acute coronary insufficiency under conditions of its pharmacological correction” (1996).

Curator of educational and pedagogical work at the Faculty of Training Doctors for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded the sign “Excellence in Education”.

MD, Pediatric Pathologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences (2008). She graduated from the Bogomolets National Medical University in 2001, where she has been working at the Department of Pathological Anatomy ever since. Since 2009 – Associate Professor of the Department.

Vyacheslav Dibrova  

Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD), Associate Professor;

MD, Pathologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences (1985). He graduated with honors from the Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute (1973). He studied in graduate school at the Department of Pathological Anatomy of the Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute (1973–1976). Since 1976 — assistant of the department.

PhD thesis: “Ultrastructure of the myocardium of an animated organism after experimental clinical death caused by electrical trauma” (1985).

Since 1988 — Associate Professor of the Department, Head of the Department’s educational part of the course of clinical pathology, in 2013 – Acting Head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy.

In 1998–2006 – Chief Freelance Specialist in Pathological Anatomy of the Main Department of Health Care of the Kyiv City State Administration. Chief freelance specialist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in the specialty “Pathological Anatomy” (2009-2017). Expert of the Clinical Expert Commission of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. First Vice President of the Association of Pathologists of Ukraine (2013-2018).

Author of more than 200 scientific works, including textbooks and teaching aids. At the department, he performs the functions of a trade union group organizer (trade union group).

Petro Kuzyk

Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD), Associate Professor;

MD, Pathologist, Pediatric Pathologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences (2010). Petro Kuzyk graduated from the Medical Faculty No. 1 of Danylo Halytsky Lviv State Medical University in 2003. Following this, he completed an internship in Pathological Anatomy at Danylo Halytsky Lviv State Medical University (2003-2004) and participated in internships at medical institutions and higher education institutions in Poland (2018, 2019).

His professional experience includes working as a Pathologist at the municipal institution Lviv Regional Pathology Bureau (2004-2015), serving as an Assistant at the Department of Pathological Anatomy and Forensic Medicine of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University (2007-2010), leading the Pathology Department of Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 1 (2016), and being an Associate Professor of the Department of Pathological Anatomy, Histology, and Forensic Medicine at Kyiv Medical University (2015-2020).

PhD thesis topic: “Fatal pulmonary embolism: clinical and pathological characteristics” (defended on March 26, 2010; Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University; scientific adviser—Academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Dmytro Zerbino).

Research interests: Infectious Disease Pathology, Pathology of Tuberculosis and HIV infection, diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

Olga Rudnytska

Candidate of Medical Sciences (PhD), Associate Professor;

MD, Pathologist, Pediatric Pathologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences (1999). Graduated from the Bogomolets Ukrainian State University (1993).

Since 1993 she has been a trainee teacher, since 1994 – an assistant, since 2004 – an associate professor. In 2020-2021 – Acting Head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy No. 1.

PhD thesis topic: “Functional morphology of the myocardial microhemocirculatory bed in the modeling of chronic coronary heart disease” (1999).

MD, Pediatric Pathologist. In 1997, graduated from the Pediatric Faculty of Bogomolets National Medical University. From 1997 to 1998, completed an internship, and since 1998, has been working in the Department of Pediatric Pathological Anatomy at the National Specialized Children’s Hospital “OHMATDYT.” From 2003 to 2017, warked in the Department of Human Anatomy at Bogomolets National Medical University. In 2016, completed postgraduate studies at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery named after M.M. Amosov under the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

PhD dissertation topic: “Pathomorphological Changes of the Left Ventricle in Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome” (2018).

Since 2021, working on a doctoral dissertation on the planned topic: “Morphogenesis of Placental Dysfunction in Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).”

Yuliia Dibrova

Assistant;

MD, Pathologist. Graduated with honors from the Bogomolets National Medical University (2012), after graduation she worked at the Department of Pathological Anatomy (senior laboratory assistant). She completed an internship in pathological anatomy (2013). Research interests: infectious diseases, peculiarities of morphology and pathogenesis of influenza.

She is studying at the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education at the Bogomolets National Medical University (since 2019), is implementing the relevant educational and scientific program and curriculum, working on her dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

MD, Pathologist, cytomorphologist, geneticist, master’s degree in systems analysis.

In 2013, she graduated from the Medical Lyceum of the Bogomolets National Medical University, in 2019 – from the Bogomolets National Medical University, specializing in General Medicine, with honors, and was included in the University Honor Book.

In 2021, she completed her internship in Pathological Anatomy.

In 2023, she received a specialization in Laboratory Genetics, and in 2024 – Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics.

Also, in 2024, she received a master’s degree in systems analysis from Lviv Polytechnic National University.

Senior Laboratory Assistant of the Department

Graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (1986).

Since 1991 she has been working as a senior laboratory assistant at the Department of Pathological Anatomy.

Research interests: ensuring the educational process using the latest educational technologies in the conditions of the credit-transfer system of organization of the educational process.
