Students’ scientific club

Meetings of the club are held twice a month (on Wednesdays or by prior arrangement) in the auditory # 18 of the Department of Hygiene and Ecology, 3rd floor, sanitary and hygienic building, Beresteyskiy avenue, 34
The activity of the club is aimed at:
– headhunting for scientifically gifted student youth;
– teaching students modern methods of hygienic research;
– training of future scientific and pedagogical staff;
– organization of student research work;
– working out of preventive and hygienic thinking in future specialists of medical speciality;
The hygiene student scientific club began its activity in 1865 when a student at St. Vladimir University. Subbotin published an article, “Study of the effect of potassium manganese on protein substances”. Later V.A. Subbotin (already a professor and head of the hygiene department) actively encouraged students to research in the well-equipped laboratory of the department.
During the years of its existence, many scholars of today became its pupils: academician E.G. Goncharuk (Honorary Rector of NMU), O.V. Pavlov (Former Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor), Corresponding Member of NAMS of Ukraine, Professor V.G. Bardov (current Head of the Department of Hygiene and Ecology), Professor I.I. Nickberg, Professor G.S. Yatsula, Professor I.P. Kozyaryn, Professor O.P. Gulchiy, Professor S.T. Omelchuk (Director of the Institute of Hygiene and Ecology), Professor N.V. Verzhikovskaya.
The main work directions are the health and hygienic aspects of the environmental factors that influence the population’s health in current conditions, anthropogenic load on the environment, and hygienic regulation.
Forms of work are experimental and research. This includes preparing abstract reports on topical hygiene issues, conducting their own scientific research, and participating in scientific research at the Institute of Hygiene and Ecology. There are regular scientific conferences dedicated to brilliant scientists, outstanding dates in the history of the University and the Department take place with the participation of students at the Department of Hygiene and Ecology # 1, as well as the scientific achievements of the students of the club are also highlighted.
Outreach in-field meetings have also become a new form of interaction with club students.
The department’s club cooperates closely with the other hygiene and ecology departments of the University and other Higher education Establishments, as well as with the departments of medical profile and basic disciplines (departments of bioorganic and biological chemistry, propedeutics of internal medicine №2, etc.).
