In 1965 he graduated from Ivan Franko Lviv State University with a specialty in Biology and Biochemistry.
In 1988 he defended the dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences in the specialty 03.00.04 – Biochemistry on the topic “Investigation of the regulatory role of the redox state of nicotinamide coenzymes in intracellular metabolism in animal tissues”.
In 1990 he received the title of professor at the Department of Biochemistry.
Head of Vitamin and Coenzyme Biochemistry Department of Biochemistry Institute NAS of Ukraine.
The main directions of scientific and practical work:
Number of trained doctors of sciences – 1, candidates of sciences – 11; is the scientific supervisor of three graduate students.
Scientific interests are focused on the study of molecular mechanisms of regulation of intracellular metabolism in humans and animals in normal and pathological processes, in particular in diabetes, in diseases of the bone system (osteoporosis) and non-plastic cell transformation. The original concept of the regulatory role of the redox state of the nicotinamide coenzymes (redox state of free NAD + / NADH) in the compartmentalization and integration of cellular metabolic processes, implemented on the principle of stoichiometric control, has been put forward and experimentally substantiated. For the first time, the intensity of osteoclastogenesis was evaluated by the expression level of osteocalcin bone remodeling markers, osteoprotegerin (OPG), and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis-induced receptor activator ligand κB (RANKL). The role of vitamin D3 in the regulation of the NF-κB / IκBα transcription factor system in the tissues of rats was established, and the expression of NF-κB transcriptional factor-dependent functional cytokine regulatory proteins – VEGF, TNF-α and iNOS – was investigated. Means of effective correction of pathological disorders of bone metabolism are developed on the basis of created new highly effective complex preparations of vitamin D3 and bisphosphonates for the purpose of their further introduction into medical practice.
