The main task of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Toxicology is essential improvement of the quality of teaching and learning through the usage of innovative methods and technologies for the implementation of scientific research in the fields of analysis of medicines, biochemical research methods, toxicological chemistry and pedagogy, and the formation of an effective system of control and assessment of student knowledge.

The Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Medicinal is graduative, therefore the educational process is professionally oriented, which means, in particular, the planning and teaching of all disciplines based on practical skills and the rejection of abstract exercises detached from the discipline which is studied, the widespread usage of professionally directed learning technologies that are able to activate the students to think, to increase their autonomy in solving problems. These methods provide active emotional state of reproduction of knowledge, facilitate assimilation of educational material, especially practical skills, create a favorable learning mood, encourage to academic work.

In order to intensify and improve the educational process there are regular teaching sessions.

Professor Iryna V. Nizhenkovska lectures on “Medicinal Toxicology”

Professor O.V. Welchinska lectures on Toxicological Chemistry for students of the 5th course of the Faculty of Pharmacy

Associated Professor O.V. Kuznetsova lectures on Biological Chemistry for students of the 3rd course of the Faculty of Pharmacy

Much attention is given to the intensification of educational process, individualization of learning and finding innovative approaches. The need in innovation appears as a goal in the modern conditions of intensive development of all sectors of society. And it is not only the purpose of education, but also an aim to promote students to innovative thinking and to approaches in professional business.

The active learning techniques and technologies of teaching are used by the lecturers in full volume or partly and included in the educational and training manuals, that are developed or prepared by the Department.

The main directions of the educational and methodological work of the Department:

  • improvement of the teaching of disciplines, that are taught in the Department with European norms and standards for pharmaceutical education;
  • improvement of the programs and other learning materials of disciplines, that are taught in the Department;
  • improvement of the system of current and final control and assessment of students’ knowledge;

The formation of students’ practical skills in the usage and interpretation of the results of laboratory research methods, the composition and mechanism of action of medicinal products is facilitated by the educational and methodological manuals prepared by the teachers of the Department:

For the self-preparation of students for the Licensing Integrated Exam “Krok 1 Pharmacy” and “Krok 2 Pharmacy” the Department has developed educational and methodological manuals with test tasks with an explanation of the correct answer of the disciplines which are included in Krok 1 “Pharmacy” and Krok 2 “Pharmacy”:

In order to organize mixed (auditory-distance) education for students 142 educational videos are posted on the YouTube page of the Department: https://www.youtube.com/@user-yj2fn5mz3x.

In order to deepen theoretical knowledge, practical skills and abilities in Organic, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry, the Department organized the work of a Students’ scientific club (look at the section “Students scientific club“).

Students of the 5th year of the Faculty of Pharmacy, under the guidance of scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department, perform qualifying Master’s theses on the basis of:
