DEPARTMENT OF FAMILY MEDICINE (GENERAL PRACTICE)

History

Department of Family Medicine was one of the first in Ukraine established in 1997 on the basis of the Department of Hospital Therapy №3 with a course in military field therapy.

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Olha M. Hyrina was elected to the post of Head of the Department . She manages this Department till present. She is a member of the Association of Family Physicians of Ukraine and the European Association of General Practitioners , a member of the editorial board of the journal “Simeyna Medytsyna” , author of more than 470 scientific papers, including 8 monographs , textbooks or manuals.

Department was recognized reference among similar departments in higher educational institutions of Ukraine of III – I V levels of accreditation by Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, dated December, 12, 2005, No. 762. Predegree program of study for students of 5 th and 6 th courses and elective course in family medicine were developed in conjunction with the departments of other universities.

20 dissertations are carrying out and 14 Candidate’s dissertations were defended at the Department .

At the Department of General Practice (Family Medicine) operates research and practice group for 5-6 th year students of the University. Meetings are held at the Department of General Practice (Family Medicine) at the address Pymonenka St.10, 1 st floor (Out-patient clinic №2 of Shevchenkivsky district of Kiev) and at clinical site of Out-patient clinic of the Hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine at Manuilskoho St., 9. Members of the Group discuss current problems of family medicine. Active participants are admitted to medical diagnostic process and also get preference for admission to postgraduate training program and/or subsequently – to clinical internship. Candidate of Medical Sciences, Assistant professor Hennadiy D. Kirzhner takes care of the work of Students’ Scientific Group of the Department.

Employees of the Department are actively involved in clinical work and collaborative work with bodies of the Health Care Practice Service. They developed “Regulations on the Department of General (Family) P ractice” for C linical Hospital №2 of Shevchenkivsky district , several private outpatient clinics of family medicine and «Job descriptions for Head of the Department of Family Medicine, general practitioners, senior nurses and nurses of general practice” .
