INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

Industrial medical practice in the outpatient clinic of general practice – family medicine and in the outpatient clinic of the consultative diagnostic center for 5th year students (IX, X semester) of medical faculties No. 1-4, the faculty of training of foreign citizens.

The industrial pharmacy practice is conducted in full-time form, as well as in remote online form, taking into account the current situation in the country and in accordance with the current regulatory framework. In the case of distance online training, the CANVAS (open access) learning platform for distance online learning is used.

Information on the industrial medical practice

Industrial medical practice for students of the 5th year (IX, X semester) is conducted in accordance with the Work program of the discipline “Industrial medical practice in the outpatient clinic of general practice – family medicine and in the outpatient conditions of the consultative diagnostic center” for higher medical education institutions of Ukraine. The program is designed for specialties 222 “MEDICINE”, 228 “PEDIATRICS”, in accordance with the educational and professional training program and educational qualification characteristics approved by the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 16.04.2003 №239 in accordance with the order of the Bogomolets National Medical University dated 26.02.2020 №133 “On approval of Methodological recommendations for the development of work programs of academic disciplines”.

The internship “Industrial medical practice in the outpatient clinic of general practice – family medicine and in the outpatient setting of the consultative diagnostic center” is

conducted in accordance with the curriculum during the IX, X semesters, when the student has acquired relevant knowledge of the basic basic disciplines with which the internship program is integrated. Such industrial medical practice is aimed at mastering the skills necessary for doctors of primary health care institutions and forms the basis for further study of clinical disciplines – surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency conditions, which involves integration with these disciplines and the development of skills to apply knowledge of medical practice in the process of further education and professional activity.

In accordance with the educational and professional programs “Medicine”, “Pediatrics” and their curricula, the amount of training hours in the discipline “Industrial medical practice in the outpatient clinic of general practice – family medicine and in the outpatient setting of the consultative diagnostic center”, which is studied by students in the fifth year, is:

–        ECTS credits – 5; number of hours: 150 in total, of which 30 are classroom hours and 120 are independent work.

The industrial medical practice of the 5th year students of medical faculties is conducted as doctors of general practice family medicine health care facilities and in outpatient settings of primary care consultative and diagnostic centers:

• internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology: on the basis of outpatient health care facilities (according to the List of health care facilities approved by the Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 385 dated 28.10.2002, registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on 12.11.2002, No. 892-VIII. No. 892/7180, and in accordance with the provisions of the Laws of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Fundamentals of the Legislation of Ukraine on Health Care to Improve the Provision of Medical Care” No. 3611-VI dated 07.07.2011 and “On the Procedure for Reforming the Health Care System in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovs’k, Donetsk Regions and the City of Kyiv” No. 3612-VI dated 07.07.2011);
• emergency conditions: at the bases of ambulance substations and in the reception and diagnostic departments of medical institutions that provide assistance in case of emergency during the IX, X academic semester in accordance with the approved Class Schedule

The internship program is represented by one module “Industrial medical practice in an outpatient clinic of general practice – family medicine and in an outpatient clinic of a consultative diagnostic center”, which includes 4 content modules:

• Content module 1: Main responsibilities and professional actions of a general practitioner – family doctor in providing therapeutic care – 1.9 credits, 57 hours (6 working days);
• Content module 2: Main responsibilities and professional actions of a general practitioner – family doctor in providing surgical care – 0.8 credits, 24 hours (3 working days);
• Content module 3: Main responsibilities and professional actions of a general practitioner – family doctor in providing pediatric care – 1.5 credits, 45 hours (5 working days);
• Content module 4: Main responsibilities and professional actions of a general practitioner – family doctor in the provision of obstetric and gynecological care – 0.8 credits, 24 hours (3 working days);

The sequence of content modules is determined by the responsible university supervisor and may vary depending on the production expediency.

The control of mastering practical skills, according to the list, is carried out by the teachers – supervisors of the practice from the university. The final control of the industrial medical practice takes place after the completion of the practice in the form of a differentiated test for each content module separately. The arithmetic mean of the four grades obtained (from the content modules) is the grade in the discipline “Industrial medical practice in the outpatient clinic of general practice – family medicine and in the outpatient setting of the consultative diagnostic center”. The assessment of student performance in the internship is a rating and is assigned on a multi-point scale, defined according to the ECTS system and the traditional scale adopted in Ukraine.

The purpose of teaching the discipline “Industrial medical practice in the outpatient clinic of general practice – family medicine and in the outpatient clinic of the consultative diagnostic center” is to develop the ability to apply the acquired knowledge, skills and understanding to solve typical problems of the primary health care physician, the scope of which is provided by certain lists of syndromes and symptoms of diseases, emergency conditions and diseases that require special tactics of patient management and evaluation of laboratory tests.

• conduct clinical examinations of patients and analyze their results;
• plan the sequence of examinations for each patient depending on the clinical course of the disease;
• analyze the results of basic laboratory and instrumental research methods;
• identify the leading pathological symptoms and syndromes in the most common diseases;
• conduct differential diagnosis and make a preliminary diagnosis of the most common diseases;
• determine the best route for the patient;
• improve methods of diagnosis and emergency medical care in general medical practice;
• improve medical procedures performed at the primary care level;
• to practically master modern methods of biological and radiation protection of healthcare workers;
• to practically master the algorithm of actions in case of detection of a potentially dangerous infectious patient or a group of patients with signs of damaging external influences (chemical agents, ionizing radiation);
• to get acquainted with the peculiarities of keeping medical records in family medicine outpatient clinics and obstetric and gynecological outpatient facilities, modern medical information systems, and be able to apply them in practice;

• master and apply moral and ethical principles of general practitioner- family physician.

The objective of the internship is to consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired in the study of basic clinical disciplines (examination of the patient, differential diagnosis and clinical diagnosis, prescription of treatment, prevention, dispensary) and further improvement of practical skills, familiarization with the organization of the medical process and working conditions of a doctor in a general practice outpatient clinic (mono- or poly-practice) and obstetric and gynecological outpatient clinic, as well as consolidation of skills in preventive work and promotion of healthy lifestyle.

Cycle 1: “HIV/AIDS Prevention: Modern Integrated Approach” (50 Continuing Professional Development Points):

• from March 4 to 15;
• from April 1 to 12;
• from May 13 to 24;
• from June 7 to 20;
• from September 9 to 20;
• from October 14 to 25.

Cycle 2: “Modern Approaches to the Use of Narcotic and Psychotropic Medicines in General Medical Practice” (50 Continuing Professional Development Points):

• from January 22 to February 2;
• from February 19 to March 1;
• from September 23 to October 4;
• from October 28 to November 8.

Cycle 3: “Modern Approaches to the Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention of Viral Hepatitis” (50 Continuing Professional Development Points):

• from March 18 to 29;
• from April 15 to 26;
• from November 18 to 29.

Cycle 4: “Tuberculosis Diagnosis under the Patronage of the Family Doctor” (50 Continuing Professional Development Points):

• from March 11 to 22;
• from October 7 to 18;
• from November 4 to 15;
• from December 2 to 13.

Cycle 5: “Professional Pathology Issues in General Medical Practice” (25 Continuing Professional Development Points):

• from February 5 to 9;
• from April 29 to May 3;
• from September 16 to 20.

Doctors can also participate in two specialization cycles “General Practice – Family Medicine” lasting 3 and 6 months. This is the main project of the Postgraduate Education Institute of Bogomolets National Medical University, which unites 15 departments of the institution and the best speakers, mentors, and lecturers of our university.

The “General Practice – Family Medicine” specialization cycles will be implemented:

• from January 25 to July 25 – 6 months;
• from September 30 to December 27 – 3 months.

The training will take place on online platforms with practical skill development at the Primary Healthcare Centers, departments, and clinical bases of Bogomolets National Medical University.
