HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

 

The history of the DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL REHABILITATION AND SPORTS MEDICINE has started with the training course “Medical supervision and physical therapy” at the Department of physical education since 1929.

From 1944 to 1952 the docent I.A. Elgard headed the department of physical education integrated with the course of medical supervision and physical therapy.

From 1952 to 1955 the docent N.Z. Korabliov headed the department.

From 1955 to 1956  V.A. Petrovskyi, a well-known trainer of Olympic champion V. Borzov  managed the course of medical supervision at the department of physical education.

Next stage in the history of the department, which can be easily highlighted, goes back to 1957 when G.A. Krasnoselskij reached the leadership of the department.

From 1969 to 1996 the Department was headed by doctor of Medicine, professor G.V. Polesya, doctor of Medicine, professor.A. Purig, docent М.М. Solovtsov, doctor of Medicine G.L. Apanasenko, professor V.P. Murza.

In 1996 the course was given a status of clinical department “Physical therapy and sports medicine”, which was headed by doctor of medicine, professor V.A. Shapovalova.

In 2008 the department was renamed as “the department of physical rehabilitation and sports medicine”.

From 2010 to 2016 the Department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences V.V. Volkov, Doctor of Medicine L.V. Dudar, acting head of the department was V.V. Chernyavskiy.

Since 2017 until now, the Department has been headed by Doctor of Medicine, professor, a doctor of the highest qualification, honored worker of Physical education and sport – Elena Evgenivna Dorofeieiva.

In 2018 professor О.Є. Дорофєєва became a guarantor of Educational Programme to promote specialists of first (Bachelor) and second (Master) stages of higher education in speciality 227 “Physical therapy, ergotherapy”. The licenses were obtained. The Department received a status of the graduating Depatment of new specialty “Physical therapy, ergotherapy”.
