Public Health Department members and the graduate students took part in the “One Health Day” webinar

 

Employees of the Department of Public Health   and the graduate students actively participated in the “One Health Day” webinar. The WHO Office in Ukraine and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Office in Ukraine orchestrated this online gathering, which took place on November 7, 2023, via the ZOOM platform. The event program included 2 sessions “International aspects of implementing the One Health approach” and “Implementing the One Health approach in Ukraine”.

The main purpose of the webinar was to enhance the competence and integrity of veterinary and medical students regarding the One Health approach. Additionally, it is significant to emphasize that communication and collaboration in the pursuit of shared health goals contribute to the overall success of the One Health initiative.

Webinar participants listened to the reports, covering topics such as the “Basic principles of the One Health approach and the role of WHO in its implementation,” “Directions of WHO activities in Ukraine for the One Health approach,” “FAO programs and initiatives in One Health implementation,” and “Areas of activity of the CPH/State Food and Consumer Service within the ‘One Health’ framework: legal structure, practical implementation, key achievements, and future plans.” Distinguished speakers included WHO representative Lisa Scheuermann, Olexander Revnivtsev from the Office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Ukraine, Olena Kuryata from the WHO Office in Ukraine, Anton Fabiash from the Central of Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and Mikhail Tyaukhov from the State Consumer Service of Ukraine.

The NMU students demonstrated a high level of interest and asked speakers numerous thoughtful questions. In response, they received the comprehensive answers, contributing to a dynamic exchange of information.

 

 

 

Employees of the Department of Public Health   held a regular meeting with Swedish colleagues as part of cooperation in the European Union ERASMUS+ Program

Employees of the Department of Public Health   maintains close professional ties with colleagues from the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of Gothenburg. The successful implementation of the first part of the European Union ERASMUS+ Program in the summer of 2023 allowed employees of the Department of Public Health   to study the experience of implementing public health educational programs in one of the most authoritative institutions of higher education in Sweden and to present the educational and professional program “Public Health” implemented at the Bogomolets National Medical University.

Currently, further cooperation is planned in the educational and scientific fields. On November 30, 2023 Head of the Department of Public Health  , professor Gruzieva T.S. took part in an online meeting with Swedish colleagues, as well as with other participants of the international project. The meeting was organized by the Vice-Rector of the University of Gothenburg, Head of the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, professor Max Petzold. During the meeting, the implementation of the second stage of the ERASMUS+ Program and approaches to planning joint scientific projects were discussed. The experience of European partners is extremely important for the further development of educational and scientific realms in the public health system of Ukraine.

 

 

Discussion of current public health issues in the scientific and educational environment of partner institutions

 Department of Public Health   of Educational and Scientific Institute of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Bogomolets National Medical University fruitfully collaborates with single-disciplinary departments of other national institutions of higher education to solve priority problems in the development of the public health system and staffing.

Examples of such cooperation are the preparation of educational publications, scientific articles, and conducting scientific and practical events.

On November 2, 2023, employees of the Department of Public Health   of NMU took part in the VI scientific and practical conference with international participation on the topic “Public health in Ukraine: problems and ways to solve them,” organized by the Department of Public Health   and Health Management of the Kharkov National Medical University.

The forum program included 10 reports from employees of the Department of Public Health   of the NMU.

Speeches by representatives of the Department of Public Health   were received with great attention and curiosity and provoked rigorous discussion.

The next platform for discussing current public health issues will be a scientific and practical conference for World Health Day, traditionally organized by the Department of Public Health   of the NMU.

 

 

 

Boosting skills and knowledge in composing high-quality tests

 On October 10th and 25th, 2023, the head of the department, professor Gruzieva T.S. and associate professor of the department Hrechyshkina N.V. were invited and took part in the workshop “High-quality tests composing fundamentals” at the Testing Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The acquired knowledge and skills will be further used to improve the tools for assessing the educational results of those, getting higher education.

 

 

 

 

Preparation for the accreditation of the educational program “Public Health” of the second (master’s) level of higher education (specialty 229  “Public Health” in the field of knowledge 22 “Healthcare”)

On october 11th, employees of the Department of Public Health  , Head of the department, professor Gruzieva T.S. and associate professor Hrechyshkina N.V.  took part in a meeting with heads of departments on the materials preparation for the EP “Public Health” accreditation (the second (master’s) level of higher education in specialty 229 “Public Health” in the field of knowledge 22 “Healthcare”).

In his opening remarks, Vice-Rector for Scientific-Pedagogical and Academic Work of Bogomolets NMU, professor Vlasenko O.M. revealed the main organizational development activities for the development of EP “Public Health” at Bogomolets NMU.

The director of the Educational and Scientific Center for Administration of the Educational Process and Monitoring of Internal Systems for Assuring the Quality of Education, associate professor M. I. Moldovanov, made a report regarding the experience and stumbling stones associated with the specialties accreditation process.

Head of the Department of Educational and Methodological Work, Licensing and Accreditation, associate professor Kucherenko I.I. made a focus on the practical preparation aspects of EP “Public Health” accreditation, as well as some specific peculiarities regarding public information presentation, preparation for the assessment visit of the expert group to the University, and the tasks of the EP guarantor and members of the working group on preparation for the accreditation.

Deputy Director of the Educational and Scientific Center for Administration of the Educational Process and Monitoring of Internal Systems for Assuring the Quality of Education, associate professor N.K. Grebin also addressed the audience and head of production practice Tatyanich I.M.

During the event, numerous questions from meeting participants were covered.

 

 

 

 

Meeting of the Public Health Center to discuss the issue of higher education standards in specialty 229 “Public Health”

 On September 19th, 2023 Head of the department, professor Gruzieva T.S. took part in an online meeting organized by the Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine to discuss the issue of higher education standards in specialty 229 “Public Health”, taking into account the decision of the higher education sector of the Ministry of Education and Science (protocol dated April 20, 2023 No. 21) on the inclusion of competencies related with early intervention, in higher education standards; expressed an opinion on this issue, supported by the meeting participants.

 

 

 

Employees of the Department of Public Health   participation in a scientific and practical conference with international participation dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Department of Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Occupational Health Bogomolets NMU

 On September 15th, 2023, a scientific and practical conference with international participation was held at NMU to mark the 100th anniversary of the Department of Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Occupational Health of NMU. Employees of the Department of Public Health   – head, professor Gruzieva T.S., associate professor Hrechyshkina N.V., associate professor Inshakova H.V. together with students acting a master’s degree in public health, took part in this authoritative event, congratulated the employees of the department day, and took part in the reports discussion.

 

Employees of the Department of Public Health   participation in the meeting of the Academic Council of Bogomolets NMU

 On September 13th, 2023, the head of the Department of Public Health   took part in a meeting of the Academic Council of the NMU. During the meeting, the results of the 2023 entrance campaign were summed up, the receipt of scientific degrees and the awarding of academic titles were approved, changes in the educational and professional program of the NMU Medical Professional College were agreed upon, and a decision was made to create an educational and scientific Institute of Mental Health at the University. A rating of scientific and pedagogical workers of theoretical and clinical departments was presented based on the results of the past academic year. According to the results of the rating, the head of the Department of Public Health, professor Gruzieva T.S. took second place among scientific and pedagogical workers of theoretical departments. During the meeting of the Academic Council, Deputy Rector for Personnel Issues Drapei I.M. shared information regarding the importance of the need for military registration for all the medical workers from 18 to 60 years old, incl. women from January 1st, 2023.

 

 

 

 

Participation of employees of the Department of Public Health   in a production meeting with heads of departments

 On September 7th, 2023 employees of the Department of Public Health   – head of the department, professor Gruzieva T.S., associate professor Hrechyshkina N.V. took part in a production meeting with the heads of departments and got acquainted with the requirements for the design of the syllabus and work programs for the educational components of the educational program.

 

 

 

 

Participation of employees of the Department of Public Health   in the organization and holding of the meeting of the Cyclic Methodical Commission on specialty 229 “Public Health”

On August 31th, 2023, employees of the Department of Public Health   took part in the organization and holding of the meeting of the Cyclic Methodical Commission (CМC) on specialty 229 “Public Health”. Head of the CMC “Public Health”, guarantor of the educational and professional program “Public Health”, head of the Department of Public Health, professor T.S. Gruzieva shared the Bogomolets NMU decree, dated August 31, 2023, No. 717 “Regarding the preparation and accreditation of the Public Health educational program (EP) of the second (master’s) level of higher education in the specialty 229 “Public Health” of the field of knowledge 22 “Health Care” in 2023/2024. The participants of the meeting got acquainted with the members of the working group for the documents preparation for the accreditation of the EP in specialty 229 “Public health”, with the Plan of the main activities for the preparation EP accreditation and passing. At the meeting of the CMC on the specialty 229 “Public Health”, the working curricula and syllabuses of the academic disciplines, which are taught in the public health master’s training course, were reviewed, discussed and approved.

 

 

The first meeting of the Department of Public Health
in 2023/2024 academic year

On August 28th, 2023, the first meeting of the public health department in the new 2023/2024 academic year was held, at which the learning programs and syllabuses for academic disciplines were discussed and approved. The agenda of the meeting also included discussion and approval of the plan of events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the department in 2024. An important stage of the department’s work in 2023 is the preparation for the accreditation of the educational and professional program, which determined the tasks for the department’s employees.

 

 

 

Internship of the staff of the Department of Public Health at the School of Public Health and Social Medicine, University of Gothenburg (Sweden)

 

From June 12th to 24th, 2023, the staff of the Department of Public Health at the Bogomolets National Medical University completed a two-week internship at the School of Public Health and Social Medicine at the University of Gothenburg. This event was conducted under the Erasmus+ ICM program and included participation in the Training of Higher Education Institutions Staff on the Development of Educational Programmes for Public Health Specialists.  The attendees of the Training were the head of the department, professor T. Gruzieva, professor B. Palamar, associate professor N. Hrechyshkina, associate professor V. Zamkevych, associate professor H. Inshakova.

The training program included studying the Swedish experience in training public health professionals, presentations of educational programs for Masters of Public Health at the School of Public Health and Social Medicine of the University of Gothenburg as well as at Bogomolets National Medical University and Tbilisi State University. It also involved discussion of current problems of training different categories of public health professionals and exchange of experience on approaches to their solution.

The internship began with an initial introductory meeting and presentation of all project participants. Following this the Head of the School of Public Health and Social Medicine at the University of Gothenburg, who is a vice-rector of the University of Gothenburg starting from July 2023, professor Max Petzold, made a presentation. His presentation covered information about the University of Gothenburg, its history, structure, activities, the place of the School of Public Health and Social Medicine in it, its areas of work and main achievements.

The head of the Department of Public Health, professor Tetiana Gruzieva delivered a presentation about the Bogomolets National Medical University, highlighting its glorious history and present, as well as about the activities of the Department of Social Medicine and Public Health, which is set to celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. Additionally, the Georgian colleagues introduced participants to the mission, structure and activities of the Tbilisi State University.

Within the framework of the internship programme, the experience of training masters of public health and doctors of philosophy in medicine and public health at the University of Gothenburg. This included examining the peculiarities of forming educational programmes, approaches to teaching disciplines were studied.  The members of the Ukrainian and Georgian delegations also presented the educational and professional programmes “Public Health” implemented at the Bogomolets National Medical University and Tbilisi State University.

The daily training was seamlessly integrated with visits to the scientific and medical departments of the University of Gothenburg and the public health infrastructure, municipal and regional health authorities.

The participants of the internship became acquainted with the work of the Cancer Registration Centre, the regional CDC Centre, the Family Medicine Centre of one of the districts of Gothenburg, the Institute of Environmental Medicine, including the noise research laboratory, and the emergency department of Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

During the internship, the experience of the Gothenburg Municipality and the Västra Götaland Regional Council in disease prevention and public health development was studied.

All participants of the Training actively engaged in the discussion, exchanged impressions and expressed their own vision of ways to improve the training of public health professionals.

The cultural programme for the internship participants, prepared by the host country, was interesting. It included visits to the Museum of Fine Arts (Geteborgs Konstmuseum), the Museum of Nature, the Gothenburg Botanical Garden, a boat trip along the Gothenburg coast and other activities.

The end of the business trip coincided with one of Sweden’s major holidays – Midsummer, the mid-summer festival. Since summers are short in Sweden, the country’s residents celebrate this longest day of the polar summer with great festivity, when the sun does not set at all.  This day is an official holiday, celebrated on Friday for convenience. People usually celebrate by gathering with their families and friends, in nature, mostly outside the city. The Training participants were invited to celebrate Midsummer with the family of the project leader, professor Max Petzold, at his country house.  Everyone had the opportunity to interact in an informal setting, learn more about Swedish customs and culture, and share their national traditions.

Following the completion of the Training and the internship program, the participants discussed and outlined directions and measures for further collaboration between the project participants in the scientific and educational fields.
