Meeting of the student scientific circle of the Department of Surgery No. 2
Interdisciplinary dialogue despite the power outage: a meeting of the student scientific circles of the NMU on the topic “Wounds: from pathogenesis and molecular processes to modern diagnostics and effective treatment”
December 10, 2025, the event brought together young scientists and active circle members from the departments of Surgery No. 2, Pediatric Surgery, Pathological Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Parasitology with the basics of immunology to discuss key aspects of wounds, which is one of the most relevant topics in modern medical practice.
The meeting was held in non-standard conditions – without power supply, caused by the armed aggression of the Russian Federation on the civilian infrastructure of our country. However, this did not become an obstacle to fruitful scientific work: students and their mentors joined forces, focused on the essence of the problem and supported an active discussion, demonstrating a high level of motivation and responsibility for their own scientific development.
During the event, a wide range of issues were considered, devoted to the pathogenesis of the wound process, immunological and molecular mechanisms of inflammation, modern diagnostic methods and innovative approaches to the treatment of acute and chronic wounds.
During the meeting, the following reports were made:
- “Immunomorphology of the wound process”, Duryagina Oleksandra Oleksandrivna, student of the NNI of Medicine, group 13117;
- “Pathomorphology of purulent wounds”, Yeltsova Anna Denisivna, student of the NNI of Medicine, group 13117;
- Fomenko Yevgeny, student of group 13101, “C-reactive protein as a molecular marker of the severity of the inflammatory process in wound treatment”;
- Kuznetsov Oleksiy, 3rd year student of the NNI of Medicine, group 13208, “Diabetes-associated foot infections as an example of chronic wounds infection”;
- Suprun Inna Oleksandrivna, 4th year student of the Medical Faculty No. 3, group 12304, “VAC-therapy as an alternative method of wound treatment”.
At the end of the meeting, the head of the Department of Surgery No. 2 circle, associate professor, PhD Prystupiuk M.O. and the head of the circle Trembovetska Yu.B. presented commemorative gifts to active club members, as a sign of encouragement for further scientific activity and at the same time sincere congratulations on the upcoming holidays.
ANNUAL YOUNG MEDICAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE 2025
On November 20-21, 2025, the annual international conference was held at the Bogomolets National Medical University, where our department took an active part.
The students of circle, under the leadership of Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department Prystupiuk M. O., successfully presented the results of their own research in the SURGERY AND TRAUMATOLOGY section and published them in Vol. 159 No. 4 (2025): Ukrainian Scientific Medical Youth Journal (SUPPLEMENT):
- Trembovetska Yuliana won an honorable first place in the section with the work “Clinical effectiveness of the use of methoxyflurane during surgical manipulations in patients with combat injuries”
- Onyshchenko K. S. presented “Clinical assessment of resistance of microorganisms in patients with MBT to common groups of antibiotics”
In addition, within the framework of the conference, master classes were held by PhD, Associate Professor Prystupiuk M. O. for participants from different parts of Ukraine. Students had the opportunity to listen to the theoretical part, as well as work out practical skills:
- Modern wound management: from theory to clinical solutions
- Ultrasound of veins of the lower extremities
WORLD DIABETES DAY
14.11.2025 the event “Diabetes and Well-being. Learn more and do more to fight diabetes. Diabetes in the workplace” was held.
Active club members had the opportunity to:
- listen to lectures from leading experts on one of the most relevant topics today,

Joint meeting with the Student Scientific Circle of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 1
“Chronic pancreatitis: a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis and treatment”
On October 28, 2025, a joint meeting was held dedicated to an extremely relevant topic – chronic pancreatitis.
Due to the high incidence and complexity of managing patients who require both conservative and, often, surgical treatment, this nosology is still in the lead role.
Our speakers deeply revealed all aspects – from modern diagnostics to surgical intervention tactics. Our department reported:
- “Diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis”, Onufrovych Rostyslav, 4th year student of the NNI of Medicine
- “Indications for the treatment of chronic pancreatitis. Basic methods of surgical intervention”, 3rd year student Kyrylenko A
Also, with the support of the leaders of scientific circles, students practiced the skill of ultrasound of the abdominal cavity and retroperitoneal space.
Joint meeting with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 2 on the topic
“Differential diagnosis of acute appendicitis and ectopic pregnancy”
On October 7, 2025, active students considered one of the most important topics on the border of surgery and obstetrics and gynecology – differential diagnosis of acute appendicitis and ectopic pregnancy.
These emergency conditions are among the most common in the practice of a doctor. Both diseases may have a similar clinical picture, but require fundamentally different approaches to treatment. Timely recognition is crucial for the life and health of the patient.
Initially, under the guidance of PhD, Associate Professor, Prystupiuk M.O., the students of the group studied the topic of appendicitis. 4th year student, Medical Faculty No. 3 Vasylenko Margarita reported on the main aspects of etiopathogenesis, clinical course and types of treatment of acute appendicitis in women of reproductive age.
Later, 4th year student, Alekseeva Svitlana, under the guidance of the assistant responsible for the work of the circle of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 2, PhD Skuryatnik N.G., covered the topic “Ectopic pregnancy – its types, risk factors, course and features of diagnosis”.
Also, the participants of the meeting worked out one of the most necessary practical skills in the practice of a doctor – ultrasound of the abdominal cavity and pelvic organs. The practical part was carried out under the supervision of Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery No. 1, PhD, leading specialist in ultrasound diagnostics Moroz V.V.
