The Department Of Hygiene and Ecology №2 brought up within its walls and gave the scientific passion to the whole pleiad of scientific and scientific pedagogical specialists, who worthily brought and bring the creative traditions, put into the way of their creative life by Department Of Hygiene and Ecology №2 at Bogomolets NMU, into hygienic science and pedagogy.

The first in Ukraine Department of Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health was organized in 1923 in Kyiv medical institute. It had the title “department of occupational hygiene”. Since 1993 the head at department is corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine, Doctor of Medicine, professor Oleksander Yavorovskyy.
The department has nurtured and instilled a creative scientific spirit in a whole constellation of scientific and scientific-educational specialists who have carried and continue to carry the creative traditions in the fields of hygiene science and pedagogy. These traditions were embedded in the way of their creative life by the Department.

Specialties that are taught in the pre-graduate and post-graduate stages
In each academic year, the following disciplines are taught at the Department according to the curriculum:
– “Hygiene and ecology” on the 2nd year of the Medical Faculties;
– “Occupational health and safety” in the 1st year of the Medical Faculties;
– “Hygiene and ecology” at the 6th year of Medical Faculty №2.
The 2-th year Hygiene and Ecology program includes 60 academic hours (10 hours of lectures, 50 hours of practical classes and 30 hours of individual work (IW)).
The hygiene and ecology program for 6th year students of the Medical Faculty №2 studying in the specialty “Medicine” includes 75 academic hours (40 hours of practical classes and 35 hours – IW).
The 1-th year Occupational Safety and Hygiene
It is also possible to study the following elective courses:
Life Safety for 1st-year students of the Dental and Medical Faculties;
Occupational Safety and Hygiene for Dentists for 2nd-year students of the Dental Faculty;
Hospital Hygiene for 4th-year students of the Medical Faculties.
The department has a lecture course of about 66 hours in the fall-winter semester and 60 hours in the spring-summer semester.
