Educational activities
On September 24, 2024, a joint meeting of the student research group of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy and the student research group of the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy was held. This meeting became an important event for the student community, because it united two areas of medicine – clinical pharmacology and mental health problems, which are particularly relevant in modern medical practice.
The invited lecturer – Viktoriya Serhiyivna Potaskalova, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, associate professor of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy, candidate of medical sciences, presented a thorough report on the topic “Risks in treatment with antidepressants and ways to overcome them.” In her report, Victoria Sergeyivna emphasized the risks accompanying the use of antidepressants in the treatment of patients with depression and other mental disorders, and also provided practical recommendations for their minimization. In particular, the issue of interaction of antidepressants with other drugs, risk management of adverse reactions and problems related to the withdrawal of antidepressants was considered.
The topic of the meeting aroused lively interest among the participants, since the use of antidepressants is one of the key directions in modern psychopharmacology, and the correct understanding of the approaches to their appointment is important for both doctors and pharmacists. Every year, the number of patients who need antidepressants is increasing, so knowledge about how to avoid possible complications and optimize treatment becomes especially important.
43 graduates of higher medical and pharmaceutical education took part in the event, including 20 students of medical faculties, 23 students of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mental Health, 8 students of the pharmaceutical faculty, 3 intern doctors.
The meeting became an important platform for the interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and experience, and also contributed to raising the level of awareness of future doctors and pharmacists in such complex issues as the rational use of antidepressants and improving the quality of psychiatric care.
On May 1-2, 2024, the intensive “The World Inside Woman” on the topic “Induction of labor” was held, which gathered numerous participants wishing to deepen their knowledge in this field. During two days, 10 lectures from 5 sections were presented: obstetrics, endocrinology, pediatrics, clinical pharmacology, physiology.
From the department of clinical pharmacology and clinical pharmacy, reports were made by:
- Maryna Savchuk (student of the 6th year of the Faculty of Medicine No. 2): “Pharmacological methods of labor induction: misoprostol”
- Zavodyak Diana (fourth-year student of the Faculty of Pharmacy): “Pharmacological methods of labor induction: mifepristone.”
The pharmacological properties of misoprostol and mifepristone were discussed in detail; safety and risks of use for mother and child; when and to whom it should be prescribed with special care, etc.
The head of the group of the department of clinical pharmacology and clinical pharmacy, candidate of biological sciences, Assoc. Olena Temirova, who emphasized the importance of knowledge about pharmacological methods of labor induction for obstetricians-gynecologists and pharmacists.
The “WIW 4.0: Induction of Labor” intensive enriched participants’ knowledge, inspired further research and established connections between specialists from different fields of medicine.
In April 2024, students of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Bogomolets National Medical University, as part of the All-Ukrainian project “Student to Student”, read video lectures on current topics for their colleagues from other institutions of higher medical education. In them, they drew attention to the global problem of antibiotic resistance, which is one of the ten biggest threats to humanity.
Thus, 4th-year student Yaroslava Govorova and 5th-year student Viktoriya Mostova shared their findings on the topics “Antibiotic resistance: causes and ways to overcome” and “Rational antibiotic therapy in children.” Since the topics related to important issues of practical medicine and pharmacy, the listeners joined the event with interest.
During the lectures, future pharmacists talked in detail about the process of administration of antimicrobial drugs in accordance with updated industry standards and regulatory documents, informed about modern infectious challenges faced by health care institutions. Considerable attention was also paid to the issue of antibiotic therapy in children, which requires special care and knowledge.
Her lectures, which aroused the interest of the listeners and motivated them to further study, students of O.O. Bogomolets was trained at the department of clinical pharmacology and clinical pharmacy under the leadership of the head of the department, professor Mykola Khaitovich and assistant professor Olena Temirova.
We would like to remind you that the “Student to Student” project was initiated by the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Internal Medicine of the Kharkiv National Medical University with the aim of popularizing educational activities among students, encouraging them to creative work and innovations. Students prepare and present video lectures on complex topics of medicine and pharmacy, thus making learning more accessible and interesting.
