LABORATORY OF IMMUNOLOGY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

Head: Dmytro Maltsev, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Immunologist of the highest category

He regularly participates in international congresses on neuroimmunology, so in 2018 he spoke orally in the United States at the 4th Neurological Disorders Summit (NDS-2018), (Los Angeles), and Europe 10th International Virology Summit & 4th International Conference on Influensa & Zoonotic Diseases, (Vienna, Austria), in 2019 gave an oral presentation at the 5th Congress of the European Academy of Neurology (Oslo, Norway), 11th International Conference on HHV-6 & 7, (Quebec City, Canada).

He is the author of more than 20 monographs on immunology and neuroimmunology, including a textbook for medical students and an atlas of radiological manifestations of herpesvirus infections.

The main directions of scientific research:

Improving the diagnosis of immunodeficiency diseases and the development of modern treatments.

Since 2020 research work “Development of a new concept of diagnostic algorithm for mental disorders of the autism spectrum in children for the pathogenetic justification for correction of the condition by immunotherapy

The aim of the study is to study the immunogenetic, biochemical, immunological and neuroimmunological aspects of the encephalopathy pathogenesis in children with autism spectrum disorders associated with genetic deficiency of the folate cycle, to justify in clinical practice neuroprotective treatment in the form of immunotherapy.

The main research methods:

  • Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay
  • Flow cytofluorimetry
  • Polymerase chain reaction

The Laboratory of Immunology and Molecular Biology was equipped with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay complex (RT-2100C analyzer) and a COULTER EPICS XL flow cytofluorimeter. Three employees underwent courses to work with a flow cytofluorimeter and lymphocyte typing and received the appropriate certificates.

Cell sorting by flow cytometry – identification of lymphocyte groups, determination of the type of immunodeficiency

Molecular Genetics Research Sector

In December 2015 the work in the Department of Molecular Biology began. A complete set of real-time PCR amplifier Applied Biosystems 7500 RealTime PCR System (USA) was purchased and installed in the ECM Research Institute. A method of studying single-nucleotide polymorphisms has been tested, which allows to determine the hereditary predisposition to various multifactorial diseases, as well as to predict individual sensitivity to pharmacological drugs. Employees of the ECM Research Institute were trained in the course of specialization in “Laboratory Genetics” at NMAPE named after Shupika.

The Commission of the Main Department of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service in Kyiv issued a permit for the study of pathogens of groups 3-4 of pathogenicity by PCR and molecular genetic research. The Commission emphasized, that by all criteria (flow organization, equipment, sanitary norms, etc.), the molecular genetic laboratory of the ECM Research Institute is exemplary.
