Main directions of work

The basic directions of scientific and practical work of the department include conducting of scientific researches, preparation of scientific and pedagogical personnel, organization of scientific and practical forums, writing of scientific works, development of student science, etc. The scientific interests of the department are determined by its specificity, which provides for the study and teaching of various issues of public health, health care organization and biostatistics.

2023-2025

«Scientific substantiation of improving the organizational foundations of the health care system under conditions of modern transformational changes»

 

2020-2022

«Medical and social substantiation of optimization of medical care in conditions of development of public health system»

Based on the results of the research work, the following was justified and developed:

  • directions and measures to improve the organization of medical care;
  • modern functional and organizational models of assistance:
  • conceptual functional-organizational model of dermatovenerological service;
  • model of a regional center for cardiology and cardiac surgery on the principles of public-private partnership,
  • conceptual model of a university dental clinic on the principles of public-private partnership;
  • medical and preventive programs for older people;
  • educational and professional training program for masters of public health, its educational and methodological support, namely 7 syllabuses of academic disciplines and 7 work programs of academic disciplines: “Fundamentals of public health” (19 topics), “Epidemiology of non-communicable diseases” (15 topics), “ Health and Well-Being: Monitoring and Evaluation” (15 topics), “Biostatistics and Epidemiology” (30 topics), “Health Systems” (15 topics), “Global Burden of Disease” (12 topics), “Quality Management” (12 topics ), as well as 118 methodological recommendations for each topic within the academic disciplines. The textbook “Public Health” (2022), the tutorial “Public Health” (2021), the textbook “Biostatistics” (2020), and methodological recommendations on biostatistics for practical classes (2021, English) have been published.

The results of the research work were used in organizing the provision of dermatovenerological care to the population in the health care institutions of Vinnitsa, Volyn, Kyiv, Kirovograd, Lvov, Odessa, Kherson regions, and the city of Kyiv; introduced into the educational process of 11 UWMO and into the practical activities and educational process of specialized departments of higher education, the Dental Medical Center of Bogomolets NMU, scientific and methodological work of the Research Center for Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, etc.

Based on the results of the work, the following were published: 2 monographs abroad, methodological recommendations, an information letter, 3 textbooks, 2 tutorials, 59 articles (including 23 – in Scopus indexed journals, 2 – in Web of Science indexed and 27 – in professional domestic publications), 90 abstracts, including 21 – in foreign editions.

Participated in 25 scientific forums, where 79 reports were made, including 16 – abroad. Implementation of scientific developments in the work of health care institutions and educational process, confirming 37 acts of implementation.

According to the results of the research, 2 dissertations “Doctor of Medical Sciences” were defended.

 

2017-2019

«Scientific justification of staffing for public health service»

According to the results of the work: 3 monographs were published (including 2 – abroad), methodological recommendations, 3 information sheets, 45 articles (including 18 – in Scopus indexed journals and 21 – in professional domestic publications), 108 abstracts, including 17 – in foreign editions.

Participated in 39 scientific forums, where 109 reports were made, including 17 – abroad. Implementation of scientific developments in the work of health care institutions and educational process, confirming 48 acts of implementation. According to the results of the research, 3 dissertations were defended.

 

2017

Implementation of scientific topics commissioned by international agencies

With the support of the WHO Bureau, a curriculum for the thematic improvement cycle, Integrated Hypertension and Diabetes Management in Primary Health Care (2017), has been developed and implemented in a number of pilot regions.

 

2015-2016

“Conceptual Foundations of the Public Health System in Ukraine”.

Published 17 articles (3 – abroad, including 1 – in the journal included in the PubMed / Medline, EBSCO, MNISW, Index Copernicus, PBL, Scopus), 33 abstracts (5 abroad), published 1 monograph (1 section), made 21 reports on scientific forums at different levels (6 abroad).

 

2014-2016

“Substantiation of the modern system of prevention of chronic noncommunicable diseases and formation of a healthy lifestyle” commissioned by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

According to the results, 38 articles (7 – abroad, including 1 – in the journal included in the bases PubMed / Medline, EBSCO, MNISW, Index Copernicus, PBL, Scopus), 33 abstracts (3 abroad) were published , 4 monographs (8 sections) were published, methodological recommendations, information sheet, 41 reports were made at scientific forums at different levels (8 abroad).

“Substantiation of methodological principles of monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of reforms in the health care system” commissioned by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Implementation of scientific topics commissioned by international agencies

The staff of the department work closely in solving scientific problems with many international agencies, including the WHO Regional Office for Europe, the International Renaissance Foundation, and the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC, USA).

 

At the request of ERB WHO, the courses of thematic improvement have been substantiated and developed:

  • Integrated Management of Hypertension and Primary Care Diabetes (2017)
  • “Features of senior patients’ primary care management organization” (2016)
  • “Provision of emergency and primary care to internally displaced persons for mobile unit staff” (2015)
  • “Topical Issues in the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases in the Practice of Primary Care Facilities” (2014).

 

At the request of ERB WHO staff members of the department participated in the preparation of a number of national reports of Ukraine:

  • National Report «Non-communicable diseases: prevention and health promotion in Ukraine»(2014)
  • National report ‘Assessment of funding, education, management and political context for strategic planning of the health care staff resources in Ukraine’(2010)
  • National report «Tobacco control in Ukraine» (2009)
  • National report «Prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs) and CNCDs risk factors in different age groups of Ukrainian population» (2009).

 

At the request of ERB WHO and the CDC, the staff of the department performed scientific works:

  • “Global survey of medical students on smoking” (2009)
  • “Development of educational programs on smoking” (2010).

 

At the request of ERB WHO, a scientific project “Review of national data on nutrition of different populations of Ukraine and distribution” (2010) was implemented.

 

Within the framework of cooperation with the International Renaissance Foundation, a scientific project was carried out “Substantiation, development and pilot implementation of the training program of the discipline” Medical Law “at the undergraduate level at the Higher Education Institute of Ukraine (2008).

The project “Development of the training program of the course” Management in Health Care “was implemented in cooperation with the University of Alabama in Birmingham (USA) (2007).
