The department in organization and realization of its activity consolidates the traditions that were launched by classics of propedeutic therapy: clinical study of student with compulsory participation of patient, uniting physical, laboratory and instrumental research methods for examination in clinical training of medical student, emphasis on semiological, as well as semeiotic syndromic approach while studying pathology in propedeutic cycle, independent work of student directly near the bed of patient, formation of esthetic and deontological principles and development of clinical thinking pursuant to analysis for manifestation of disease, implementation of the newest methods for diagnostics and treatment into practical medicine.
The system and structure on teaching basics of medical care for patients that is didactically united with basics of diagnostics and nosological therapy has been improved. The extremely important direction in this work – realization of occupational orientation of youth through system of medical lyceums. Since 1995 the department of propedeutics of internal diseases starts teaching valeology and care for patients in medical lyceum, established at Ukrainian state medical university.
The newest pedagogical direction in department was the establishment of training system for masters in the form of their active participation in lecturing process and during performance of practical classes, as well as more involvement of post-graduate students into pedagogical process.
The radical re-organization in forms for intermediate and examination control for knowledge and skills of students was made under supervision of professor V.Z. Netiazhenko. The system of computer test control was worked out and implemented into pedagogical process within this purpose. The integration in teaching propedeutics of internal diseases with department of theoretical and clinical profile was deepened and enlarged.
The important impulse in pedagogical achievements of department at that period was the establishment of creative scientific pedagogical relations with Rochester University (USA). The communication of teachers at department with American colleagues established the basis for formation of principles for primary training clinical physicians-medical students due to IHHI system. The direct acquaintance of both parties with systems on teaching internal diseases in National medical university and in American higher medical schools assisted to this event.
The department carries out the fruitful work as a supportive one among higher medical schools of Ukraine in the sphere of integration and optimization in propedeutic training national medical staff. Every year the department organizes the academic methodological conferences for heads at propedeutic departments, where they solve the issues and problems on optimization of academic activity.
Due to transfer of Bogomolets National medical university to credit modular system of study, the department worked out and implemented typical academic programs and plans on propedeutics of internal medicine, care for patients, nursing practice, elective courses “Deontology in medicine” and “Emergency management” into academic activity.
In 2008 due to implementation of new regulatory legal documents, as well as necessity in more adequate adaptation of pedagogical process to modern propedeutic requirements in clinical training of student, the department of propedeutics of internal diseases No 1 was renamed into department of propedeutics of internal medicine No 1.
