SOLEMN OPENING THE UPDATED BUILDING AND MEMORIAL PLATES IN MECHNYKOV STREET, 5
The solemn opening the architectural and historical memorial of Kyiv in the XX century, being updated after capital repair, – building of medical division of Higher women’s courses and now the academic building of O.O. Bohomolets NMU took place on 23, August, 2016 in Mechnykov street, 5.
Until 2010 the building has been the memorial of architecture, later this plate was removed. Today the administration of O.O. Bohomolets returns the lost history. Since now the building is decorated with two memorial plates: one plate contains the names of famous scientists-anatomists, pathologists, professors at medical faculty of St. Volodymyr and Kyiv medical institute, who worked here during various time – V. Vysokovych, P. Morozov, M. Spirov, Ye. Chayka, Yu. Sapozhnikov, K. Kulchytskyy, written with golden letters, the other plate – the description of historical value of the building itself.
The following persons took part in the opening ceremony of updated building: rector in O.O. Bohomolets NMU, corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine, professor Kateryna Amosova; honorary guests – academician in NAMS of Ukraine, corresponding member in NAS of Ukraine, Honorary Scientist and Technician of Ukraine, laureate of State Prize of Ukraine in the sphere of science and technology Dmytro Zerbino, Honorary Doctor of Ukraine, major general of medical service, Doctor of Medicine, professor Mykhaylo Boychak, people’s deputy of Ukraine of the 1st convocation, Candidate of Medicine Valeriy Ivasiuk; writer, politician, Doctor of History Serhii Golovatyy, head at department of church history at Kyiv Orthodox theological academy, Doctor of Church History, professor, cleric in academic temple of St. John the Evangelist and Apostolus, archpriest f. Vitaliy Klos, as well as public leaders, collective and students of National medical university.
According to the words by rector in university, professor Kateryna Amosova, this memorial of history is the valuable sample for erection of medical academic establishment that preserved until now almost without changes. “Today is the extremely solemn day – on the eve of the 25th anniversary of our independence we open the updated building of university and memorial plates. The update of the building started two years ago and it is very important for us to preserve all architectural solutions by architect Pavlo Golubiatnykov. Today the building is occupied by two departments of O.O. Bohomolets National medical university: department of operative surgery and topographic anatomy, department of pathological anatomy, as well as the mortuary of Oleksandrivska hospital”, – tells Kateryna Amosova.
The honorary right to open the memorial plates was granted to academician in NAMS of Ukraine, corresponding member in NAS of Ukraine, Honorary Scientist and Technician of Ukraine, laureate of State Prize of Ukraine in the sphere of science and technology Dmytro Zerbino, Honorary Doctor of Ukraine, major general of medical service, Doctor of Medicine, professor Mykhaylo Boychak, head at department of operative surgery and topographic anatomy Viktor Cherniak and head at department of pathological anatomy No 1 at O. O. Bohomolets National medical university Liubov Zakhartseva.
According to the decision of commission about emergency conditions the capital repair of the building was started in the spring this year. “Here we completely replaced the windows, doors, repaired all halls from the first to the third floors, made the repair of central and lateral staircases, restored the water disposal, made the capital repair of basements, which will be used as classrooms and laboratories. We also enclosed and planted the territory around the building (earlier the visitors of neighboring restaurant parked their cars here and impeded the entry to the building)”, – tells the head at department of capital repair and construction Klavdiia Vynokhodova.
According to the words by head at department of operative surgery and topographic anatomy Viktor Cherniak, the university administration assisted to restoration of architectural memorial. “Having made the capital repair, we preserved the historical appearance of the building, in particular 9 m lecture hall, which was made in the form of amphitheatre and located in the semi-rotunda. This lecture hall can hold 250-300 students at the same time, the exhibits of anatomical museum were demonstrated there before. The administration managed to preserve the metal and wooden structures of seat rows” (here were left the authentic copper radiators with tsar coat of arms). We bought the interactive board with projector to the department of operative surgery and topographic anatomy – the approach to learning of students has been improved. For recent two years the department received many trainers-models for fulfillment of operations by students. In September the department has been waiting for new receipt of models. The administration also plans to make the new laboratory and a computer room for students”, – emphasized Viktor Cherniak.
“University is the temple of science and the whole scientific progress passes through university”, – that was the statement with which the guest from Lviv, academician in NAMS of Ukraine, corresponding member in NAS of Ukraine Dmytro Zerbino finished his welcome speech on occasion of opening the updated building and memorial plates.
The building after capital repair is opened on the eve of the 175th anniversary of O.O. Bohomolets National medical university. It is very symbolic as the return of forgotten history and restoration of its memorials is extremely important for cultural inheritance of our people and self-realization of medical students – their predecessors were the real lights of medicine.
