NEW HOMUNCULES AND MOULAGES FOR PRACTICAL STUDY

The students of O.O. Bohomolets National medical university can now practice using absolutely new homunculi and moulages. Thus, the university spent UAH 1.7 mln to purchase the newest medical homunculi, moulages and simulators, designed to drill reanimation actions, skills of diagnostics and treatment.

The homunculi and stimulators enable not only imitating but actually performing the main skills in work of doctor. The students can practice different methods of injections on them, performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, operations, fitting of stomach tubes, urinary catheterization, temporary hemostasis and many other skills. In particular, the infant simulator and the mannequin of adult allow mastering the skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The electronic homunculi for department of obstetrics and gynecology enable modeling different obstetric situations, physiological child birth, child birth in pelvic presentation, caesarean section, laying vacuum extractor and obstetric forceps, perineorrhaphy, aid at obstetric bleeding. Using the endoscope simulator-moulage of stomach and duodenum one can model the pathological processes with different localizations. As well, in connection with the changes in curriculum, the university purchased the moulages of wounds, burns and battle injuries (gunshot injury), which will be used to teach students with basics of military surgery.

The university in total received 87 kinds of homunculi, moulages and simulator for different purpose for 20 departments at university. Namely: departments of obstetrics and gynecology No 1, neurosurgery, surgery No 2, traumatology and orthopedics, radiology and radiation medicine, pediatrics No 1, neurology, internal medicine No 3, anatomy, internal medicine No 1, internal medicine No 2, surgery No 4, otorhinolaryngology, operative surgery and topographic anatomy, pediatric surgery, internal medicine No 4, pediatrics No 3, pediatrics No 5, general practice (family medicine), surgical dentistry.

It is planned to apply the new homunculi for practical classes, taking tests on industrial practice and performance of practical part in FMC.
