15.01.2018

The third cycle of advanced study for teachers – Training “Objective Structured Clinical Exam: Basic Course” started on 15, January, 2018 at O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University.

The rector of NMU, corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine, professor Kateryna Amosova welcomed on beginning of the new learning course. “Training teachers with general principles of OSCE is extremely important as this format is generally accepted in the USA, Europe as licensing exams, in particular. And we take this experience. It is important that the teachers, who train students to OSCE, would understand the goal and tasks of exam and its place among means of assessment. This knowledge is also necessary to teachers to explain to a student, what he/she will be required and under what conditions he/she would pass through exam”, – told professor Kateryna Amosova.

Director in Institute of Postgraduate Education, professor Yurii Kuchyn mentioned that such activity at University relates to the implementation of new clinical exam for students of the 3rd course and for interns of separate specialties. The students of the 6th course and interns of all specialties will pass through OSCE in the future. “Accordingly, there is the need so that a great number of teachers would be acquainted not only how to prepare the exam or how it is made by specially trained teachers but how to train an attendant, intern to this exam. The performance of 3 trainings is planned by the end of January and about a hundred of teachers will pass through study only for one month”, – told Yurii Kuchyn.

The lecture material within the course is traditionally combined with practical classes. During the lectures the participants got acquainted with the theoretical basics of course and prerequisites for mastery of practical skills in teaching OSCE. At practical classes the teachers created the plan of simple station, as well as the recommendations in training to pass through exam. As well, at practical class the groups of participants in training created and worked with the check list of “simple” station of OSCE. The participants in training were the teachers of clinical departments in the 2nd and 3rd courses (propedeutics of internal medicine and general surgery), who train the students to pass through OSCE-1 (3rd course) and OSCE-2 (6th course).

The pro-rector in scientific pedagogical activity, assistant professor Olena Stechenko in her lecture “OSCE: basic concepts and general principles” defined the basic concepts of OSCE for preparation and performance of such objective structured clinical exam, established the general principles and main stages in preparation of exam, as well as determined the role of teachers at clinical departments for efficient training of students to performance of OSCE-1.
