INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION OF DENTISTS AND FAMILY DOCTORS FROM NMU AND MARYLAND UNIVERSITY (USA)

Round table with the head in dental clinic from the United States of America with participation of doctors-interns, clinical residents, postgraduate students-dentists and family doctors of NMU.

The interactive lecture by doctor-dentist, clinical teacher at Dental School of University in state Maryland from the USA Dmytro Itskovych on topic “Recommendations of dentist for family doctor as a control for conditions of mouth cavity helps to provide with the general health of patient”, organized by department of dentistry and Ukrainian training center of family medicine (UTCFM) of NMU for doctors-interns, clinical residents dentists and general practice-family medicine, teachers at department of dentistry and UTCFM of university, was held at Dental medical center of O.O. Bohomolets National medical university on 03.02.2015.

The meeting was organized within the first introductory friendly visit of Dr. D. Itskovych to our university. During more than 15 years he is at the head of private dental clinic “RnD Dental” in c. Washington, federal district Columbia and is a clinical teacher in Dental School of University in state Maryland (USA). Dr. D. Itskovych is a member in American Academy of Implant Dentistry, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, International Congress of Dental Implantalogist; he obtained the medical education of doctor-dentist in Moscow dental institute and State University of New York in Buffalo.

The lecture that was presented by American colleague was devoted to review of modern state in diagnostics of different diseases through their manifestations in human mouth cavity in practice of doctor-dentist, its cooperation with the specialists in family medicine. In particular, he considered the role of dental diseases in mouth cavity as centers of persistent sepsis, manifestations of influence from oral infections on organism, including interrelations with endocarditis, respiratory diseases, diabetes, diseases of the heart and vessels, manifestations of complications and adverse actions from drug therapy in mouth cavity, as well as issues about connection of mouth cavity hygiene and life quality and philosophy of society reactions to the human appearance. The meeting was interesting, open, in the interactive format. The submitted information caused to lively interests among the audience and was useful to enlarge the ideas about efficient interaction of modern dental practice and practice of family medicine in the USA.

Dr. D. Itskovych got acquainted with clinical divisions at Dental center of NMU, took part in practical classes with doctors-interns dentists.

At present moment they prepare the program for cooperation of Dental center and TCFM of O.O. Bohomolets NMU with the colleagues from the USA in the sphere of postgraduate education (probations) for general dental practice and cooperation with family doctors.
