TO UKRAINIAN LITERATURE DAY

The Week of Ukrainian language and literature, organized by teachers at department of Ukrainian studies, chaired by the head, professor A.B. Guliak, was held since 6 until 13, November, 2015 at University. The holiday starts on the eve of Ukrainian Literature and Language Day. According to the Orthodox Calendar 9, November is the day to honor the memory of Reverend Nestor the Chronicler. The keynote of the event was the topic of respectful attitude to the native word.

The Week of Ukrainian language at NMU started from issue of wall newspaper, exhibition of vyshyvanka, Ukrainian photo exhibition (organizer – assistant professor L.O. Naumenko). They liked and remembered the language literary composition “Language is our national feature, in the language – our culture, essence of our consciousness” on poetry by Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Oleksander Oles, Andrii Malyshko and Lina Kostenko in performance of students in the 1st course in group No 17 of medical faculty No 2 Kondratska Olena, Radochynska Alevtyna, Chayka Diana, Moskaliuk Liylya and Demianenko Olga.

The talented and inspired first year students of medical faculty No 2 (group 5 and 6), who at the initiative and under supervision of teachers at department of Ukrainian studies Shevel N.O. and Shevel T.O. actively supported the flash mob “To the holiday – in vyshyvanka” and joined to production of “live” wall newspaper “I love Ukrainian language”, filled in the morning of 9, November with the holiday atmosphere. Each student had the opportunity to add the poster with the own expression about language. Young boys and girls responsibly treated the choice of poetries, the poetries about Ukrainian language, native word, love to Ukraine were performed: “Language” by M. Rylskyy (A. Furman), “Horrible words, when they keep silent” by L. Kostenko (Vershniak N.), “You denied your native language” and “Native language” by D. Pavlychko (Mezhenna M.). The author’s poetry, performed by Viktoriia Rudiuk, sounded. The performance by Illya Sakhno, who declared the poetry “Duty to Ukraine” by V. Mayakovskyy, was especially artistic. Foreign students from group 44 in medical faculty No 1 (1st course) also supported our first year students, having testified the respect and love to Ukrainian language.

The collective of university library traditionally joined to the holiday. The establishment of the books’ exposition is the creative flight for librarians that presents the surprising world to the readers, filled in with exciting events and discoveries. And the employees of library at NMU demonstrated the high professional level: they prepared and performed Information Day, which program included the open revision of literature “9, November – Ukrainian Literature and Language Day”, exhibition of reference and information editions, discussions “Role of Ukrainian language in development of education and science”, “Ukrainian language in medical environment”, bibliographical review of literature “Sources of Ukrainian literature”. The information bibliographical department of library prepared and distributed the recommendation bibliographical index of literature “Our language is colorful, the lullaby of the noble soul” among participants in the event.

On 7, November the Week of Ukrainian Language and Literature was continued by visits of students Taras Shevchenko museum; the exhibition of Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar cuisine was held on 8, November in hostel No 3, and on 9, November – XV Radio dictation of national unity.

The oral journal “From Nestor the Chronicler to the XXI century…” is planned on 10, November.

I stage in XVI International contest in Ukrainian language, named after Petro Yatsyk, will be held on 11, November.

The dispute “The integrity of language is the integrity of soul” will be held on 12, November.
