MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM PROGRAM ON REDUCTION OF BIOLOGICAL THREAT IN UKRAINE

The meeting of University administration with representative from Program on reduction of biological threat in Ukraine at Agency on reduction of threat at Ministry of defense of the USA was held on 5, February, 2016 at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university.

The program on reduction of biological threat (RBT) started already in 2005 from signing the agreement between the Ministry of health care of Ukraine and Ministry of defense of the USA. The program cooperates with different countries all over the world in order to reinforce the capabilities of those countries in the sphere of detection, diagnostics and information about the cases and outbreaks of diseases and assessment of the corresponding consequences as to the safety.

The task for Mission of assessment group, which visited our university, is the assessment on capability of the country in the sphere of epidemiological supervision, biological safety and biological protection, detection of defects in the sphere of epidemiological supervision, biological safety and biological protection, collection of information about system of training to Ukrainian doctors, provision with data for development of requirements to the project.

The following persons took part in the meeting: rector Kateryna Amosova, pro-rector on international relations Olesya Lynovytska, chief extraordinary infectiologist at MHC of Ukraine, head at department of infectious diseases Olga Golubovska, chief extraordinary epidemiologist at MHC of Ukraine, head at department of epidemiology Iryna Kolesnikova, head in group of assessment Mission in Ukraine Bethany Danyliuk, expert in observance of safety in professional environment of medical workers Janet Reynolds and specialist in the sphere of informatics of health care system Birkam Nagra.

The purpose for performance of the meeting is to receive the complete information about training of students in the sphere of epidemiological supervision, biological safety and biological protection. The result from work by assessment Mission in Ukraine will be the preparation of the report. It will consist of three sections: health of human, animals and general state. The sections, which will concern the human health, will contain the information about participants in project, budget and mechanisms for financing, priorities in system of health care and general revision. At present moment the risks for origin of biological threats are large, and, thus, the real threats are created to the life of population. That’s why the training of students at our university and their help in case of a real threat will be able to avoid the consequences from catastrophes, related not only to the biological risks but to the outbreaks of dangerous infectious diseases.
