UKRAINE-SWEDEN: DEVELOPMENT OF COOPERATION BETWEEN NMU AND KAROLINSKA INSTITUTE

Every year in December, within the cooperation between O.O. Bohomolets National medical university and Swedish Karolinska Institute there are mutual visits during which they discuss the current projects and perspectives for development of cooperation between universities.

On 7-8, December, 2015 Andrii Dinets – Ph. D., head at department of intellectual property and transfer of technologies at NMU made the visit to Karolinska Institute (c. Stockholm). The program of visit was prepared and agreed by project coordinator between NMU and KI professor Tommy Linne, rector of NMU professor K.M. Amosova, first pro-rector in scientific pedagogical work professor Ya.V. Tsekhmister. Despite the short term for visit to the capital of Sweden, the program was full of business meetings at departments of Karolinska Institute and international scientific events.
The visited the department of oncology-pathology at Karolinska Institute on base of Cancer Center Karolinska, where there was the meeting with professor Kararyna Larsson – leader in scientific research group “Medical genetics”. During this meeting they discussed the issues and perspectives of project on molecular genetic and clinical researches of thyroid cancer that is implemented at Cancer Center Karolinska together with department of surgery No 4 of NMU.
The meeting with professor Yoran Pershagen, postdoc Olena Gruzeva, PhD-student Andrii Pyko took place at the Institute of environmental medicine at Karolinska Institute. They discussed the perspectives for further cooperation in the sphere of epidemiology, taking into consideration the past success of scientific educational trainings in epidemiology on the base of department of health care organization and social medicine of NMU. The scientific research group by professor Pershagen is actively engaged into educational epidemiological projects in Ukraine and Belarus: it is planned to perform the training in epidemiology on the base of NMU in October 2016. It should be mentioned about extension of geography in performance of scientific educational trainings in epidemiology: the separate discussion by professor Pershagen on this occasion took place with the pro-rector on international relations at Minsk medical university (Belarus) professor V.V. Rudenko, who also had the working visit to Karolinska Institute as to performance of training in March, 2016 on the base of his higher school.
They had the successful business meeting with professor Anders Gustafsson – dean on scientific research work at Karolinska Institute and with professor Ulle Soder – head at department of children’s and women’s health at Karolinska Institute, on which base two graduates from NMU defended the dissertations and acquired PhD degree in medical sciences and three persons more work on doctoral dissertations: they discussed the results from cooperation between Karolinska Institute and NMU and possibilities for further extension in scientific research cooperation and educational projects.
The coordinator of project for cooperation between NMU and Karolinska Institute Tommy Linne organized the seminar, in which PhD students and postdocs from Ukraine and Belarus, their scientific supervisors and project coordinators took part. PhD-students from Ukraine, graduates from NMU V.V. Podolskyy, Yu.V. Savchuk, O.Yu. Goroschuk presented the progress in writing of their dissertation works for 2014 and further scientific plans. The graduates from NMU, ex-PhD students, now postdocs – A.V. Dinets, D.V. Unulovych, M.M. Gulchiy, G.G. Tur also made the reports and told about results from their scientific research projects, which were started after defense of doctoral dissertations.
The meeting with Dr. Stephan Haas from Gastrocenter at Karolinska University Hospital as to planning the open seminar in surgery on the base of department of surgery No 4 of NMU in Republican clinical hospital at MHC of Ukraine on 11, December, 2015 also was held. They discussed the program of this event, directions for preparation of educational materials for students of NMU and other organizational issues, related to performance of this event.
Despite the intensity, two days program of visit was performed and the meetings and sessions, being held, were efficient.
