THE SPECIALISTS OF NMU SHARE WITH THEIR EXPERIENCE IN PERFORMANCE OF OPERATION IN STOMACH REDUCTION

Two week course “Bariatric surgery”, which was held since 14, March on the base of department of general surgery No 2, was finished on 25, March, 2016 at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university.

The qualified specialists-surgeons from Kyiv, Odessa and Drogobych took the exam in determination for level of knowledge and practical skills, which they received while studying the methods for treatment of excessive body weight through laparoscopic operations in stomach reduction. The doctors received the certificates due to the sample, established by Ministry of health care of Ukraine, about field-specific improvement under course “Bariatric surgery”.

During to weeks the doctors-surgeons performed the simulation operations in stomach reduction using the most modern simulator of the new generation, attended the course of field-specific lectures and were present at the operating room during demonstration operations. The study was held under supervision of the head at department of general surgery No 2 at O.O. Bohomolets NMU, member in International organization of bariatric surgeons (IFSO) Oleksander Ioffe. By the way, it was Oleksander Ioffe, who in 2012 for the first time in Ukraine performed the laparoscopic operation in stomach reduction through shunt procedure.

At present moment the bariatric operation is more efficient than any diet and intestinal shunt normalizes the blood sugar level and provides with long remission at patients, who suffer from diabetes mellitus of the 2^nd type. According to modern requirements all bariatric operations shall be performed without wide surgical sections. This technology enables significantly facilitating the postoperative period and reducing the risk for postoperative complications.

The performance of courses for advanced training and field-specific improvement will allow widely implementing the laparoscopic operations on stomach reduction into practice and reducing the number of lethal cases, caused by severe forms of adiposity. In the future it is planned to perform 3 cycles of training in field-specific improvement on the base of department of general surgery No 2 at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university: herniology (laparoscopic operations on hernia), one-port surgery (interference through one centesis) and laparoscopic surgery of gullet and stomach.

Let’s remind that the “price” of adiposity today is the risk for origin of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and insult. Excessively salty, fatty, refried food, alcohol tobacco smoking significantly increases the risks for diseases. The physical activity, balanced nutrition, vice versa, prevent from development of atherosclerosis and diabetes.
