Liubomyr Huzar, Yevhen Sverstiuk, Bohdan Havrylyshyn…

And now one more inexpressible loss – the famous scientists – philosopher, public leader and patriot of Ukraine Myroslav Popovych died on 10, February.

Being born in Zhytomyr region and finishing the secondary school in small town, M.V. Popovych successfully graduated from faculty of philosophy at Kyiv T.H. Shevchenko State University. After three years of work as a teacher of history and director of village schools M.V. Popovych entered the postgraduate course at Institute of Philosophy at Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. At this institute he defended two dissertations and passed the way from research worker to director (since 2001).

Since the very establishment of Narodnyi Rukh of Ukraine M.V. Popovych became one of its founders, having headed the first Kyiv center in 1989. Ivan Drach reminded about this period in his today’s mourning speech.

On the 20th anniversary of Referendum for Independence of Ukraine M.V. Popovych together with professor Yu.M. Scherbak became one of founders for initiative “First of December”, to which the best from the best representatives of intellectual elite in our Country joined. The rule of law, fair trial, freedom and dignity of everyone, spiritual and moral revival of Ukraine are those values, which these moral leaders brought into Ukrainian society. Their wise moral guide for nation was heard during all critical periods of the newest history for young Ukrainian State. When today the Minister of Culture Ye. Nyschuk shared his memories, how he stood on the stage of Maidan near Myroslav Popovych, it became especially calm in the overcrowded mourning hall…

The university community had the unique possibility to deal with the Great Ukrainian during his life after Maidan, when Myroslav Volodymyrovych agreed to become a member in our Supervisory Board, having expressed the great trust to us. His wisdom, humanity and extraordinary culture of scientist, patriot and moral leader were and will be the example for generations.

We became orphans together with the whole Ukraine.
