SEMINAR “FAMILY MEDICINE: PRESTIGIOUS, PROFITABLE, EASY”
The learning educational seminar “Family medicine: prestigious, profitable, easy” was held on 17, February, 2015 at conference hall in physical chemical building for students of the 5th and 6th courses in medical faculties.
The organizers of the event – employees in department of general practice (family medicine) at O.O. Bohomolets NMU (head – professor O.M. Barna) tried to inform each medical student about choice of future specialization of doctor, to describe the urgent issues of already implemented reforms and next innovations in the sphere of health care and family medicine in Ukraine.
The prorector on scientific pedagogical activity at O.O. Bohomolets NMU, professor V.I. Stepanenko mad the welcome speech.
The dean at medical faculty No 1, assistant professor V.M. Melnyk made the introductory speech, in which he emphasized the range of modern living conditions that wait for a future family doctor in Ukraine. The speaker demonstrated the actual, already implemented changes on the example of project by community “Capital repair of premises for rural health post in village Velykyy Govyliv” in Terebovlyanskyy district in Ternopil region, which was implemented within the project “Local development, oriented to community”. The dean in his presentation showed the working conditions, established to improve and to optimize the work of family doctor.
The head in division of primary medical sanitary aid at health care Department at executive authority of Kyiv city council (Kyiv city state administration) O.M. Kovalenko told about implementation of new economical model for family medicine, about structural reorganization of “primary chain”, separation of the secondary and tertiary level in provision with medical aid in c. Kyiv, about future real perspectives for future family doctor.
The director in Ukrainian training center of family medicine, assistant professor O.I. Vysotska in her report about international standards in training of family doctor paid attention of the present people to the role of so-called “expirience of shadow”. Such term is used in medical vocabulary when the choice of future specialty by medical student depends on the clinical example, which he/she had seen for the first time, and the expirience of general practitioner, which he shared with the student for the first time. It means that a student will later try to inherit what his/her first impression was.
The doctor of the highest category, employee in department of general practice (family medicine) O.I. Getman informed about social role of family doctor, availability and opportuneness of medical services. The teacher at department of general practice (family medicine) P.S. Zavgorodnya very interestingly told about one day in life of family doctor, summing up: “A family doctor – this is the specialty for clever, versatile, constantly thinking doctors, who continually strive for professional improvement and self-realization in full”.
The final speech by head at department of general practice (family medicine) professor O.M. Barna “General medical practice: improvement of education and possibilities for the future” contained the phrase that should be perceived as a successful conclusion from performed meeting with students: “Family doctors are attorneys of our health!”
After reports and answers to the questions of audience they watched the film “Family medicine in Ukraine – past, today, tomorrow”. The organizers presented three journals “Art of treatment”, “Drugs of Ukraine” and “Health” to every present person, who gave answers to the questions of sociological survey.
