DENTAL MEDICAL CENTER OF UNIVERSITY INVITES

The dental medical center of O.O. Bohomolets National medical university, which is located at the address: Zoologichna street, 1, – is a unique educational medical establishment due to its organization and purpose, which provides with the highly skilled and specialized ambulatory consulting treatment aid to the population of city Kyiv and all regions of Ukraine and train future doctors-dentists. The director of the Center is the head at department of orthopedic dentistry of O.O. Bohomolets NMU, Doctor of Medicine, professor V.P. Nespriadko.

The number of visits by patients in average per year is 290,403, including children – 120,710, 1,410 persons were accepted at division of anesthesiology under general anesthesia in ambulatory conditions. The Dental medical center of NMU in average everyday accepts and consults up to 1,200 patients with the most serious injuries, as well as accepts the patients due to directions from rural and city polyclinics.

The work of the Center is organized in two shifts according to the timetable of curricula for students of dental and treatment faculties. The treatment and diagnostic process is provided by X-ray department with 5 X-ray devices, department of anesthesiology with complete modern equipment, clinical diagnostic laboratory, physiotherapy department and dental laboratory for 73 working places.

The Dental medical center of NMU is the educational base of dental faculty, which main task now is to provide with the highest level in rendering the services in the sphere of higher medical dental education in Ukraine. In addition to students, the doctors-interns, doctors at the level of postgraduate education study here due to formula “life long study”, the teachers (assistants, assistant professors, professors, heads at departments) at higher medical schools of I-II and III-IV levels improve their qualification.

The building of dental faculty with the area of 5,696.2 sq. m was built in 1963 and designed for study of 600 students. In 1983 due to increase in admission of students to dental faculty it was finished and the total area now is 9,890.3 sq. m, the learning area occupies almost one half.

In 2004 the Dental polyclinic of MHC of Ukraine was transferred to O.O. Bohomolets National medical university, they established the Dental medical center of NMU, performed the reconstruction of the clinic with implementation of the most modern technologies in diagnostics and treatment. During 2010-2013 the expenses for capital repair of the Center were over UAH 5.9 millions. The capital repair of the roof and classrooms for the sum of over UAH 2.4 millions was made only in 2014 for the first year when professor Kateryna Amosova was the rector.

The main subdivisions of the Center, which staff included 469 persons, are:

1. Division of therapeutic dentistry – head Smirnov Sviatoslav Viktorovych, doctor of the highest category;
2. Division of pediatric therapeutic dentistry – head Nakonechna Oksana Mykhaylivna, doctor of the highest category;
3. Periodontal division – head Sema Valentyna Ivanivna, doctor of the highest category;
4. Division of tunica mucosa of mouth diseases – head Chaykina Iryna Volodymyrivna, doctor of the highest category;
5. Division of surgical dentistry – head Chopchyk Vitaliy Dmytrovych – doctor of the highest category, Candidate of Medicine;
6. Division of orthopedic dentistry – head Shaposhnyk Andrii Vitaliyovych, doctor of the highest category;
7. Division of orthodontics – head Kondratiuk Oleh Viktorovych – doctor of the highest category;
8. Physiotherapy division – responsible doctor Znachkova Olena Arkadiyivna, doctor of the highest category, Candidate of Medicine;
9. X-ray division – head Trynadtsyatko Tetiana Ivanivna, doctor of the highest category;
10. Division of anesthesiology – responsible doctor Koval Petro Borysovych, doctor of the highest category, Candidate of Medicine;
11. Clinical diagnostic laboratory – responsible doctor Zaytseva Yevgeniia Mykhaylivna, Candidate of Medicine;
12. Dental laboratory – head Slivka Oleksander Ivanovych, dental technician of the highest category.

Now over 300 working places are used that enables providing with individual practice of each student.

The academic process is carried out at 7 special departments:

• therapeutic dentistry;
• pediatric therapeutic dentistry;
• surgical dentistry of children’s age;
• surgical dentistry and facial surgery;
• orthopedic dentistry;
• orthodontics and propedeutics of orthopedic dentistry;
• dentistry (postgraduate education)

The regular personnel of the faculty includes 15 professors, as well as 2 corresponding members in NAMS of Ukraine, 15 Doctors of Medicine, 86 Candidates of Medicine, among them 29 assistant professors and 152 assistants.

The students pass through theoretical and treatment training at 67 educational treatment offices, where there are 271 dental units, in 12 classrooms: three of them have 36 homunculi, as well as three computer classrooms.

The students study dentistry from the 2^nd course, the direct work at the Center with patients starts from the 3^rd course under supervision of doctors from the Center and teachers. The compulsory stage of exams is the work with patients, which is assessed and influences on the total mark in discipline.
