The Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Toxicology is a graduating Department of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, which provides training for students in the specialty I8 \u201cPharmacy\u201d and <\/span>G21 <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Biotechnology and Bioengineering<\/span>\u201d. In 2014, the Department of Pharmaceutical, Biological and Toxicological Chemistry separated as a graduating Department of the Pharmaceutical Faculty and since 2021 has been called \u201cMedicinal Chemistry and Toxicology\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The main task of the Department is to significantly improve the quality of teaching through the use of innovative methods and technologies for the implementation of scientific research in the fields of medicines analysis, biochemical research methods, toxicological chemistry and pedagogical research and the formation of an effective system of control and evaluation of students\u2019 knowledge.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Department provides teaching students of 1-5 courses of full-time, evening and part-time forms of education 11 mandatory disciplines, such as \u201cCell Biology\u201c, \u201cOrganic Chemistry\u201d, \u201cPharmaceutical aspects of psychoactive substance use disorders\u201d, \u201cBiological Chemistry\u201d, \u201cPharmaceutical Chemistry\u201d, \u201cCellular and Molecular Biochemistry\u201c, \u201cMedicinal Toxicology\u201d, \u201cBasics of pharmacokinetic modelling\u00a0<\/span>in silico<\/span><\/i>\u201c, \u201cStandardization of Medicines\u201d,\u00a0 \u201cModern methods of researching biological objects\u201c and \u201cManufacturing practice in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and standardization of medicines\u201d, as well as 4 elective disciplines, including \u201cTheoretical foundations of synthesis and the relationship between the structure and action of medicines\u201d, \u201cToxicological and Forensic Chemistry\u201d, \u201cValidation in the quality system for biotechnological products\u201d and \u201cDrug quality control practical training\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department there are highly qualified teachers, including 2 Doctors and 15 Candidates of Sciences, who have significant experience both in teaching and in research activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scientific interests of the Department include synthesis and pharmacological assessment of biological activity of new compounds <\/span>in silico<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>in vivo<\/span><\/i>; development and improvement of methods of laboratory analysis of medicines and dietary supplements;<\/span> research into the molecular mechanisms of cell damage and the therapeutic and prophylactic use of compounds with metabolic action; educational and methodological support, reform of higher pharmaceutical education, introduction of modern educational technologies taking into account the specifics of teaching Organic, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Toxicological Chemistry for students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Department actively cooperates with leading scientific institutions and pharmaceutical enterprises such as: The State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, The State Service of Medicines and Drug Control of Ukraine, Central Laboratory for Quality Control of Medicines and Medical Products (Kyiv), Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of NAS of Ukraine, State Institution \u201cMarzieiev Institute of Public Health of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine\u201d, V.P.\u00a0Kukhar Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry and Petrochemistry (IBOPC) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, \u201cInstitute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine\u201d, which contributes to the quality training of future specialists in the pharmaceutical industry.<\/span><\/p>\n
