The intensive development and specialization of the Department of Operative Dentistry, i.e. Endodontics, Periodontology,\u00a0 Oral Medicine, Neuro-Dentistry stipulated the breakdown occurred in 1977 into departments of Operative \u00a0Dentistry and Pre-clinical Dentistry with course of Pediatric Dentistry (Head of the Department Professor O.I. Marchenko). He led the team having created a unique at that time manual for treatment of children\u2019s dental diseases.<\/p>\n

Department of Operative Dentistry of Kyiv Medical Institute in 1966\u00a0<\/em>In the first row there are three heads of departments: present \u2013 I.Y.Novyk (in the center) and two upcoming \u2013 M.F.Danylevskyyi (fourth leftward) and L.O. Khomenko (the third rightward)<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Serious research in pediatric dentistry has still begun in the Department of Therapeutic Stomatology of the Kyiv Medical Institute (afterwards known as National Medical University). Unique monographs and manuals have been developed on children\u2019s treatment. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Increased attention to pediatric dentistry and the implementation into the nomenclature of the medical specialties such specialty as \u201cPediatric dentist\u201d determined the need for creation of the separated Department of Pediatric Dentistry. Pursuant to the Bogomolets Kyiv Medical Institute Rector\u2019s Order no.17 of 16. January 1989 the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry was founded (Head of the department – Professor Larisa Oleksandrivna Khomenko). \nThe monograph by Professor Y. Novyk published in 1971 on operative pediatric dentistry has become iconic in the field of case study. Professor M. F. Danylevskyi has created the monograph on pediatric periodontology.<\/p>\n\n\n
