Department of Internal Medicine №4

History

Subdepartment of Internal Medicine №4 was established in 1957 to prepare students of pediatric faculty of the Kiev Medical Institute.

 

The first head of sub department was Hlukhenkyi Tymofiy Tytovych, Doctor of Medicine, professor, Honored Worker of Science of the USSR.

Areas of research : diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular and respiratory systems; gemopathy and gematogenesis; treatment and prevention of endemic goiter in Western Ukraine; the study of therapeutic effects of health-resort factors, including balneotherapeutic health resorts of Truskavets, Morshyn, Lubin Velyky; state of the pituitary-adrenal system in patients with lesions of the internal organs. Author of about 100 scientific publications, including several monographs.

He prepared 40 Candidates of Medicine.

Fundamental works: The pathogenesis of gastric ulcer. Physician. Delo, 1932; Content of glutathione in the blood of patients with internal diseases. Klin. Med. 1936; Treatment of edematous patients with ammonium chloride and the mechanism of action of this salt (Ph. D. dissertation). Rostov on Don, 1937; Health resort Varzi -Yatchi and its medicinal properties. Kyiv, 1940; Clinical picture of goiter in Western Ukraine. 1947; Therapeutic effect of spa resources of local health resorts – Truskavets, Morshyn, Lubin Velyky. 1950; Treatment of pneumonia with pre-venous injection of sulphazol. 1959; Goiter disease. Kyiv, 1959; Cardiovascular failure in thyrotoxicosis and its treatment. In books: Proceedings of the VII Congress of Physicians of USSR, Kiev, 1962 (co-authorship).

Pyatak Oles Avdiyovych. Head of subdepartment since 1975, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, Honored Worker of Science of the USSR. During his administration of Subdepartment such areas of research as issues of cardiovascular disease, including coronary heart disease, hypertension became the most priority. Two Doctoral dissertations were protected and a significant contribution to the improvement and development of higher medical education was made under the direction of Oles Pyatak. A versatile study of hypertension at different stages of its development and assess of the effectiveness of various pharmaceutical drugs were conducted at that time. In 1981 Subdepartment moved to a new base to KMKL №12. In 1994 Subdepartment of Pedagogy department was reorganized into the Subdepartment of Intermediate Level Therapy №2.

Lyzohub Viktor Hryhorovych. Since 1995 Head of the Subdepartment, Doctor of Medicine, professor. Scientific work of the Subdepartment is concerned with problems of cardiovascular disease, including coronary heart disease and hypertension combined with obesity, concomitant pathology of the gastrointestinal tract, changes in immunological parameters and lipid metabolism in this condition, the search for new ways to optimize treatment of these diseases is carried out and contemporary indicators of performance of immune status of the body and endocrine system are studied. At present, more than 500 students go on a course at this subdepartment; they study in 54 groups with full-time and part-time attendance, 2 groups are trained exclusively in a foreign language.
