History of the Department

The Department of Pharmacy and Industrial Technology of Drugs was established in 2002 by order of the Rector of Bogomolets National Medical University № 440 of 28 of May, 2002.

By that time, the course, and later the section of Drug Technology was part of the Department of Pharmacy, which was established on the basis of the Pharmaceutical faculty, by order of the Rector of the Bogomolets National Medical University № 40 of 3 of April, 1998.

 

In the first years of existence of the Pharmaceutical faculty of the Bogomolets National Medical University, his Dean and Head of the Department of Pharmacy with the section of the Technology of Drugs was a prominent nuke worker, honored worker of Health Care of Ukraine, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Dmytro Volokh. Born Dmytro Volokh in Chernihiv, January 29, 1936, in the village of Horobiivka. After graduating from Ozerian high school in 1954, he enrolled in the Pharmaceutical faculty at the Lviv State Medical Institute, graduating in 1959 and being assigned to the village of Ivanytsia in the Chernihiv region. He headed the Ivanytsky district pharmacy. In 1960 he was transferred to the regional Pharmacy Department in the city of Chernihiv. Deputy Chief (1961), Chief of the Chernihiv Regional Pharmacy Directorate (1966). In 1979, on the order of the Minister of Health of Ukraine Dmytro Volokh, he first moved to Kyiv for the post of Deputy Chief of the Chief Pharmacy Directorate of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, and for two years – Head of the GAPU of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

In 1992, D.S. Volokh created and was appointed President of the Anglo-Ukrainian enterprise «Tambrans Ukraine», which is engaged in the production of sanitary and hygiene items for women. The first Dean of the Pharmaceutical faculty of the Bogomolets National Medical University  (1996–2003). For his significant personal contribution to the development of the Pharmaceutical Service of Ukraine Volokh Dmytro Stepanovych was awarded the «Order of Red Banner», the «Order of Honor», the «Order of Merit of the 3rd degree», the «Medal for commemoration of the 1500 th anniversary of Kyiv», the «Excellence in Health Care». For his high professional skills Dmytro Stepanovych was honored with the title «Honored Health Worker of Ukraine», awarded with diplomas of the Government, Ministry of Health, Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (1996). Volokh D.S. is the author of over 100 scientific works, including 5 monographs, 2 manuals, 2 reference books. Trained 2 doctors and 30 PhD Сandidates.

 

The first Head of the Department of Pharmacy and Industrial Technology of Drugs was the Candidate of pharmaceutical sciences, associate professor Moskalenko Lidiya Gireevna, who graduated from Kharkiv Pharmaceutical Institute. On the position of the Head of the Department Moskalenko L.G. was from 16.05.2002 to 11.07.2005. Under the leadership of Lidiya Gireevna was developed a number of cosmetics, preventive and hygienic products and food recipes. L.G. actively cooperated with the Ukrainian branch of the International Olympic Committee, for which she developed and put into practice the means that contributed to the doping achievement of significant sporting results, namely capsule phytopreparations, energy drinks and phyto-gathering. The result of close cooperation with the Educational and Scientific Engineering and Technical Institute. Acad. I.S. Gulogo and the Kyiv National University of Technology and Design began to create food and cosmetic recipes for the brands «Fanny», «Slavia», «Eco Line Food», «Biolanta», «Image» and many others. Moskalenko L.G. is the author of more than 100 scientific papers, 2 monographs and 2 reference books.

 

From September 1, 2005 to February 13, 2006, Voloshchenko Yuriy V. – Candidate of Medical Sciences, Senior Researcher, fulfilled the duties of Head of the Department.

Born on April 10, 1935 in the town Makariv of the Kyiv region. He graduated from the Kyiv Medical Institute in 1959. In 1960-1969 he was a researcher at the Institute of Epidemiology, Microbiology and Parasitology (now the Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases); in 1969-1999 – director of the Kyiv enterprise «Biopharma»; 2005-2006 – Head of the Department of Pharmacy and Industrial Technology of Drugs of the Bogomolets National Medical University  (Kyiv). Voloshchenko Y.V. is the author of more than 50 scientific papers, 30 patents and 15 popular scientific articles published in periodicals.

 

From February 13, 2006 to June 27, 2012, the Department was headed by Syatynya Mykhailo Lukovych – Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, a graduate of Lviv State Medical Institute. Syatynya M.L. (August 16, 1957 – April 5, 2017, Synevyr village) – Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2004), Member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences of Scientific Progress (1996), Honored Health Worker (1998), Head of the Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy of Bogomolets National Medical University (from 2012 to 2017). He graduated from the Pharmaceutical faculty at the Lviv State Medical Institute (1979). Worked as a pharmacy № 7 (1979), Head of the central regional pharmacy of the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv (1983), production manager of the Ukrainian-English «Femtek» enterprise (1989); Consultant to the Hungarian Trade Representative Office in Ukraine (1990); People’s Deputy of the 4th convocation, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Legislative Support for Pharmacy Development and Pharmaceutical Activities of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Health, Maternity and Childhood (2002-2006); assistant professor, professor of the Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy (1996-2006); Head of the Department of Pharmacy and Industrial Technology of Drugs (2006-2012), Head of the Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy at the Bogomolets National Medical University (from 2012 to 2017). Areas of scientific research: theoretical, organizational and technological foundations of medical supply of the population. Scientific achievements: author of about 50 scientific and methodological works, among them 2 monographs, 2 textbooks, a dictionary.

 

From June 27, 2012 to April 10, 2014, the Department was headed by Popovych Valeriy Pavlovych – Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, associate professor, a graduate of Lviv State Medical Institute.

Date and place of birth: July 1, 1963 in the village of Kucha, Khmelnytsky region.

1978-1981 – study at Zhytomyr Pharmaceutical College.

1984-1989 – student of the Pharmaceutical faculty of Lviv Medical Institute.

1989 – internship at a pharmacy № 142 in Ternopil.

December 1989 – September 1992 – postgraduate studies in the specialty «Drug Technology and Organization of Pharmaceutical Business». 1992-1997 – аssistant рrofessor, Department of Industrial Technology of Drugs, Lviv Medical Institute. January 29, 1993 awarded the degree of Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences. 03.01.1995 was selected by the competition for the position of associate professor of the Department of Industrial Technology of Drugs.

1997-2006 – scientific consultant on drug technology of the «Production and trading firm ECMI». 2006-2013 – associate professor at the Department of Pharmacy and Industrial Technology of Drugs at the Bogomolets National Medical University. 2012-2014 – Head of the Department of Pharmacy and Industrial Technology of Drugs at the Bogomolets National Medical University. In 2013-2016 he is the Chief technologist in combination with the «Production and trading company ECMI». From September 2016 to the present he is a lecturer of pharmaceutical disciplines of Zhytomyr Basic Pharmaceutical College of Zhytomyr region. He is the author and co-author of more than 50 scientific and educational works and more than 10 patents.

 

From October 29, 2014 to October 10, 2017 – Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor, Honored Pharmacy Worker of Ukraine Kostyantyn Leonidovych Kosyachenko was the Head of the Department of Pharmacy and Industrial Technology of Drugs.

Born of September 10, 1971 in Kirovograd (since 2016 – Kropyvnytskyi) – pharmacist. Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2012). Associate Professor (2011). Graduated from Zaporizhzhya Medical Institute (1993). After graduation, he worked as a pharmacy manager in the Kirovograd region. He was subsequently invited to the Zaporizhzhya Medical University (Zaporizhzhya). In 1998 he defended his dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Since 1999 – in leading positions in the system of quality control of medicinal products, in the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Presidential Administration of Ukraine. He did not leave his scientific and teaching work: he taught at the National University of Pharmacy, Shupik National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. In 2012 he defended his dissertation for a doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences.

From 2014 to 2017 – Head of the Department of Pharmacy and Industrial Technology of Drugs of Bogomolets National Medical University. He deals with the problems of pricing for medicines in Ukraine, implementation of the system of evaluation of healthcare technologies. Chief freelance specialist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in the specialty «Organization and Management of Pharmacy». Member of the editorial board of a number of professional journals. In 2007, the Decree of the President of Ukraine conferred the honorary title of Honored Pharmacy Worker of Ukraine. He is the author and co-author of more than 50 scientific and educational works, 5 textbooks and manuals.

 

Since October 11, 2017, the Department is headed by Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Zhanna Mykolaivna Polova.

Zhanna Polova, in 1996 graduated from the Ukrainian Academy of Pharmacy (Kharkiv) for the specialty «Pharmacy» and received qualification «Provisor».

From 1996 to 1997 – internship at the Institute of Advanced Training of Pharmacy Specialists of the Ukrainian Pharmaceutical Academy, specialty «general pharmacist». From 1996 to 2001 – postgraduate studying at the Department of Industrial Technology of Drugs of the National University of Pharmacy.

In 2001, she defended her thesis for the degree of phD (Pharmacy) of the specialty 15.00.01 – drug technology and industrial pharmacy. The thesis topic is «Development of the composition and technology of therapeutic and prophylactic dental varnish».

Since 2006 she worked as an assistant at the Department of Drug Technology and Biopharmacy at Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University. Since September 2010 she has been working at the Department of Pharmacy and Industrial Technology of Drugs of the Bogomolets National Medical University. In 2014 he was awarded the title of Associate Professor. From 2015 to 2017, she was responsible for the teaching and methodological work of the department. Since 2017 she was acting Head of Department.

In 2019, she defended her thesis for the degree of Doctor Science of Pharmacy of the specialty 15.00.01 – drug technology, organization of pharmaceutical business and forensic pharmacy. The thesis topic is «Theoretical and experimental justification of the composition and technology of antimicrobial medicines for veterinary use».

Scientific interests consist in the pharmaceutical development of active pharmaceutical ingredients of biotechnological, plant and nanotechnological origin for use in cosmetology, veterinary and human medicine.

Scientific works: 110 printed works, co-author of the monograph «Nanoscience, Nanobiology, Nanopharmacy», author of 2 monographs «Development of antimicrobial veterinary medicines in the antibiotic resistance era: the current state of the problem and prospects», «Implementation of GMP principles in the industrial production of veterinary medicines in Ukraine», 3 patents, 3 copyright certificates for the work.

 

 

 

Practice bases for students of the Pharmaceutical faculty.

  • Manufacturing practice of pharmacy drug technology: Pharmacy KP «Pharmacy», Kyiv; Pharmacy of the Main Military Clinical Hospital.
  • Manufacturing practice of industrial technology of drugs: pharmaceutical companies «Biopharma», «Darnytsya», «Indar», «Pharmaceutical Factory», «Pharmak», «Kyiv Vitamin Pharmacy», «Arterium», «Pharma-Start».

 

Department’s financial support.

Modern methods of teaching material in the form of presentations by means of a laptop and a multimedia projector are used for teaching students at lectures, typical pharmacy equipment (with a standard set of means of small mechanization) and pharmaceutical substances of Pharmacopoeial quality are used in practical classes. To study the industrial aspects of drug technology in the educational process, special laboratory apparatus is used, namely: granulator, tablet machine, apparatus for determining the strength of tablets, solubility of solid dosage forms, packaging machine for ointments, machine for liquid dosage forms, pH-metr, microscopes, laboratory mill and electronic scales.
