Developments in the system of higher education of Ukraine, beginning with Bergen
(brief summary)

Ukraine has joined the Bologna process in 2005. Since then the following events have taken place: preparation of an Action Plan which should be implemented up to 2010; creation of the Bologna Follow-Up Group affiliated to the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine and creation of the National group of Bologna process promoters; student council has become a candidate-member to the National students unions in Europe (ESIB); there has been a success in implementation of the European Credit Transfer System ( ECTS) and Europe-recognized diploma supplements, as well as Ukrainian higher education sector mostly involved into European Higher Education Area. There was started work on the development of national qualifications system and it is discussed by all the parties concerned at the national level. As expected, it will be accomplished up to 2010. There have been developed plans on measures improvement and coordination for the provision of quality at the domestic level and in April 2007 there will take place a seminar on this subject. At the level of higher educational establishment can be observed definite engagement of international experts for the quality provision, the universities directly come into contact with international accreditation agencies. Currently there is a plan for graduates on getting a European-recognized supplement to diploma beginning with 2008-2009. The tasks for future include: development of the quality provision system according to Standards and recommendations on quality provision of the European Higher Education Area; implementation of the third training cycle; increase of employment level among bachelors; increase of professors and students mobility; extension of contacts between educational institutions and society
