A VISIT OF SPECIALISTS FROM KAROLINSKA INSTITUTE

The working visit of specialists from Karolinska Institute (Sweden) to O.O. Bohomolets NMU was held on 30, May, 2016. The university was visited by specialists in the sphere of dentistry Anders Gustafsson  – dean on scientific research activity at Karolinska Institute, professor at department of odontology, Kåre Buhlin – department of dentistry at Karolinska Institute, Tommy Linne – coordinator of projects between NMU and Karolinska Institute, member in European society of children’s nephrologists, Swedish national association of children’s nephrologists and Swedish society of nephrologists, professor at department of woman and child health at Karolinska institute;

During the visit they discussed the issues on scientific research cooperation between universities, as well as academic mobility of students. The seminar on topic “Oral Health and Cardiovascular Diseases” was held on the base of Dental center with participation of specialists.

The seminar was opened by rector in O.O. Bohomolets NMU professor Kateryna Amosova, who emphasized the priority of international cooperation, in particular with Karolinska Institute.

The teachers and professors at departments of dental faculty, dental students, medical students, interns, active group in O.A. Kysil SSS, employees of scientific research unit of NMU took part in the seminar.

The presentations by foreign colleagues caused to lively discussion and great interest at scientists of NMU. Especially in direction of researches on diseases of oral organs and their relation with development of cardiovascular pathology. The following reports were presented: A. Gustafsson ”Oral Health and Cardiovascular Disease”, K. Buhlin “The tooth – A Cardiovascular Matter. Results from a Swedish study” (Karolinska Institute); Borysenko A.V., Kolenko Yu.G. “Treatment of periodontitis in patients with essential hypertension” (NMU), Biloklytska G.F., Kopchak O.V. “The role of antibodies to heat shock proteins in pathogenesis of chronic periodontitis in patients with cardiovascular diseases” (KMAPE). These presentations showed the relations between periodont disease and cardiovascular diseases, higher risk of tobacco smoking at patients, as well as other available accompanying diseases, in particular diabetes mellitus.

Besides, the parties discussed the issue on treatment of patients, importance of interdisciplinary approach to prevention and rendering the medical aid.

Within the visit Swedish colleagues also attended Dental medical center of university and department of facial surgery at Kyiv regional hospital – clinical base for department of dentistry f postgraduate education at O.O. Bohomolets NMU.
