PRESENTATION OF CENTRE OF PREDOCTOR CARE FOR SCHOOLCHILDREN AT THE BASE OF THE NATIONAL MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

On November 16, 2015, the morphological building of the O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University hosted a presentation of the Centre of Predoctor care for schoolchildren at the base of the University and the all-Ukrainian Medical Volunteer project of PA All-Ukrainian Association of medical students.

The certified instructors conducted the first workshops for pupils of medical gymnasium No.33, the children learnt how to save a life before the ambulance arrival. The workshop was organized in the form of the training.

The motto of this workshop is Don’t allow an accident to take a life of your loved one. According to statistics, only one third of the victims could be saved if the site will be a qualified person knowing what to do.

Yuriy Kuchin, Director of Institute of Postgraduate Education of  O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University spoke about urgent character of the training. ‘This training is very important. We’ve established at medical university the training centre of postgraduate education. Our task is to work and study under the continuity system of medical education. That is why the postgraduate institute of O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University is ready to share the site and experience,” he said.

According to the Ukrainian fund ‘Health’, 82 % of citizens of Ukraine consider they cannot render first medical aid because they do not know what to do; 62 % – will not render it in order to avoid complications. Only 1% knows how to use the defibrillator, in Europe 40% of people know how to use it.

According to the Chairman of the Board of the all-Ukrainian Council of intensive care Vitaliy Kyrylyuk, the majority of deaths are among young people of age of 18 and 60 years old. In case of car accidents the most spread reason of lethality is bleeding. Unfortunately, the level of training in driving schools is zero. Meanwhile, the opportune aid is a guarantee of a saved life which price is invaluable. This training project will permit the pupils to receive the basic knowledge in two main directions – CPR and bleeding control.

This project will cover the whole territory of Ukraine and medical institutes of regional centres. 400 volunteer instructors will conduct free courses. There 16 certified specialists in Kyibv. For distribution the Medical volunteer project received the grant of Yuria-Pharm pharmaceutical company.

According to Mr. Harik Melkulyan, Director of PA All-Ukrainian Association of medical students, in the framework of this project it is very important to introduce a special subject of pre-medical aid in the training of all the secondary educational establishment such as ambulance call, response to cardiopulmonary arrest, first aid for burns, traumas, bleeding, etc.

Ms. Yaroslava Dubnevych, Medical Volunteer Project Coordinator, have a workshop on first pre-medical aid provision. First trainings were conducted in medical gymnasium No.33 of Kyiv city (300 pupils). She stressed the importance of spreading this knowledge and skills as the fight for a human life takes place every day.

The courses for pupils are organized in two directions:
1. Basic pre-medical aid. Basic intensive care. It includes: heart arrest and aid, CPR, aid to unconscious person, aid in case of airways obstruction, as well basic notions on insult and AMI.
2. Trauma course. Pre-medical care with minimum resources necessary before ambulance arrival. Bleeding control, correct transportation and mobilization.

This project will cover all the schools of Kyiv city and then schools of regions.
