UNIVERSITY RECEIVED THE INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE OF QUALITY MANAGEMENT

The press conference “Implementation of international quality management standards at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university” was held on 8, July, 2015 at information agency “UKRINFORM”.

The rector of NMU Kateryna Amosova, prorector on scientific pedagogical activity at NMU Olena Stechenko, president in Ukrainian association of quality Petro Kalyta, chief auditor of management systems and DQS certification system Liana Shafran took part in the event.

O.O. Bohomolets NMU is the first medical higher school that has the international quality certificate. The rector of National medical university Kateryna Amosova told about it during the press conference.

“We made a lot for last year to approach our university to European level. We improve the quality of study, stimulate the science, and fight against misuses. Out publicity is one of the mechanisms for lustration. This is our first step to European standards for higher education, which we have to confirm every year”, – told the rector.

According to the new Law “On higher education” the quality assurance system in education shall be built on some levels. The administration of O.O. Bohomolets NMU while selecting between national or international quality management systems decided to choose the international standard ISO 9001:2008.

According to the words by rector under present conditions the receipt of international quality certificate by Ukrainian university may be considered as a success. NMU tries to set its own trend despite the inertia of system and implements European changes.

In autumn 2014 the university administration joined to improvement of management system through the cycle of specialized seminars. 35 top heads of university with the rector took part in study. In total 192 employees passed through the course of study until the end of 2014, among them heads and head teachers of departments, deans and their deputies, curators of ECTS.

“Besides, the process on acquisition of standard ISO 9001:2008 covered the internal audit system: 28 persons, who for the first time in the newest history of NMU performed the internal audit of higher school in spring 2015, were trained. In June 2015 the university successfully passed through the external audit”, – told Kateryna Amosova.

After study of employees they developed and approved the strategy for development of University, underlined its purposes and defined the policy. Among the first implementations in quality management system at university they performed the anonymous survey about manifestations of corruption (almost 10 thousands students were covered), which showed the growth in satisfaction of study quality.

“The implementation of quality control system has already resulted in reduction of corruption. If almost 37% of students faced with the corruption last year at one of departments while pasting through exams, only 8% were recorded this year. The satisfaction with study at another department was 46.2% among first year students, who took exams in winter, and among third year students, who took the same exam 2 years ago – 29.7%. The level of expulsions due to results from exams was 7%. It means that the requirements to quality in study has grown”, – emphasized the prorector Olena Stechenko.

At present moment in terms of quality management the activity of University is directed to maximum satisfaction of consumer needs – in first turn studentship and state as a customer of personnel. As a result from performed work on improvement of management system the university confirms its reputation as a leader in medical education in Ukraine.

According to the words by president in Ukrainian association of quality Petro Kalyta Ukraine has chosen European way and it means that it shall adapt to European standards.

“The quality certificate provides with the chance for changes as the quality management system is a component of uniform management system and requires the high level of business culture. As we see the administration of NMU is being actively changed and it gives the hope that everything will be all right at the university”, – emphasized Petro Kalyta.
