IMPROVEMENT IN WORK OF NMU’S SUBDIVISIONS: DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRIC INFECTIOUS DISEASES
The infectious diseases at modern stage are the urgent medical and social economical problem. Due to the data from World Health Organization (WHO) 24.7% from all deaths in the world are stipulated namely by infectious pathology.
Since 1946 the department of pediatric infectious diseases at NMU has been teaching the students with modern aspects for diagnostics, treatment and prevention of pediatric infectious diseases, which are based on high indices of evidence-based medicine and correspond to world standards and provides with high level in quality of medical aid to children with infectious pathology. The department of pediatric infectious diseases at NMU is the supportive one among medical higher schools of Ukraine. The experts from MHC of Ukraine and department of health care in c. Kyiv in pediatric infectious diseases have been working at department. The main bases of department are Kyiv City Children’s Clinical Hospital No 2 in c. Kyiv. Additional ones are Kyiv City AIDS Center, infectious division at National Specialized Hospital OKHMATDYT, CPMSD in Shevchenkivskyi district of city Kyiv.
According to Strategy for development of O.O. Bogomolets NMU for 2015-2020, set forth in order by order No 585, dd. 2.10.2017 “About approval of Plan for top-priority actions to improve the work of subdivisions at O.O. Bogomolets NMU for 2017/18 academic year” , the base of international protocols/directives in diagnostics and treatment of infectious diseases at children was established and constantly function at department, which is used while teaching the discipline at department and in treatment consulting work. The interactive multimedia lectures in new format for students of the 5th course according to thematic plan are prepared and performed. Due to results from performed survey of students as to satisfaction with teaching the lecture material at department due to provided form pursuant to annex 2 to order No 14, dd. 17, January, 2018, the information was structured, the lecture contained the clinical cases under topic, the connection with material of lecture took place and it was aimed for practical use, was based on international protocols and recommendations.
It is planned to establish the multimedia video lectures for remote study. The departmental bank for tests of format A to “KROK-2” and “STEP-2” in Ukrainian, Russian and English with comments and standards of answers are established. The tests are used during practical classes and modular control (IMC). The department developed the kits of didactic materials for each class and IMC in the volume of 100%, which consist of extracts from case records, situational tasks and results from laboratory methods of researches with standard responses. At department there is the list of practical skills, which the students shall possess during study. For better learning the practical skills the department uses the educational stimulator (phantom) to perform the lumbar puncture. It is planned to establish the educational video film about technique for performance of lumbar puncture. The students positively perceive the innovations in educational process and show the interest in implementation of modern teaching methods.
