STAFF MEMBER OF THE SURGERY DEPARTMENT NO. 4 UNDERWENT TRAINING AT DAVOS COURSE GI-SURGERY IN SWITZERLAND

On 12-13 September 2017 assistant professor of the Surgery Department No. 4 Dr. Andrii Dinets PhD underwent training in surgery at Davos Course GI-Surgery (http://davoscourse.ch) in Basel (Switzerland). The course was carried out in the framework of the 47th World Congress of Surgery (WCS 2017) and with the support of the International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC).
Davos Course GI-Surgery is a practical course in postgraduate education which was established in 1978. For more than 30 years this course has been an important part of surgeons` curriculum and recognized by the majority of European surgical societies. Among other participants of the course there were surgeons from different countries: Japan, United States, Australia, Poland, Greece, Estonia, South Africa, Argentina, Nigeria, Pakistan, Vietnam, India, Fiji, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Rwanda, the United Kingdom, Serbia, Ukraine.
Program of the Davos Course GI-Surgery has several levels of training: Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, and include development of surgical techniques, training of mininvasivity. Dr. Andrii Dinets worked together with surgeon from Pakistan Mariia Anver. Pairs of trainees worked under the guidance of a mentor, Dr. Andii Dinets worked under the guidance of Dr. Marti Walter (Switzerland). Synbone mininvasive equipment with modern tools, atraumatic sutural material, Endo-Covidien-Medtronic linear and circumferential endo-staplers, video equipment of Carl Storz have been used.

For demonstration of the technique the stomach and proximal section of the colon fixed in formalin were used; samples of the liver and gallbladder were freshly removed. The following operative interventions have been practiced: entero-enteroanastomosis end-to-end, end-to-side; laparoscopic cholecystectomy, choledochojejunoanastomosis, fundoplication, open and laparoscopic anterior resection of the rectum, stomach resection in B1, B2; closure of the portal.
Skills practice is one of the most important stages of surgeon basic training as well as of the advanced training for surgeons with experience. Each year more than 200 young surgeons from more than 10 European countries take part in the Davos Course GI-Surgery. Since launching of surgery training, over 6000 surgeons from all over Europe visited it.
